Another Beneath The Other

Another Beneath The Other

A Poem by Nicholas Hagenschneider

I don’t remember your name

but i see you clearly

just another piece in this game

but i miss you dearly

i admire your ability to change

to be just like one of them

one of the everybody else

this journey wasn’t without it’s test’s

so i ponder the void

and it’s questioning

i see through it’s mirage

it’s mask

and it’s there i find you

wearing a mask of your own

i find it familiar

sad, angry, lonely is beneath

your eyes like a watery temple

truck me, paralyzed me

left me as food for you

and it was at that moment…

for the price of a memory

the change in your stride

i could see you forever

i could grasp your pride

for the price of a conversation

i could know you better

but i don’t have that kind of time

it takes time

to have time for you

i’d like to be a fly on your wall

a spy hiding to learn

to learn what it is you really want

to learn why you waste your time

what are you so afraid of?

you should be fearless

brave, strong, willing

to do what must be done

to move forward

to advance on that void

to tear off that mask

to smile and mean it

your eyes like a cool breeze

struck me, paralyzed me

left me as food for you

and it was in that moment…

I missed you, i loved you

fought for you, drowned for you

i bled from the beginning

bled from the start

and while i bled out

you removed your mask

you showed yourself to me

and i saw you

the real you

or so i thought

there sat another mask

another beneath the other

all i could see were your eyes

like those plagued by starvation, hungry

struck me

paralyzed me

left me as food for you

and it was in that moment…

i remembered your name
