Wrens Song

Wrens Song

A Poem by Jeannie Stevens
"

On a trip to Wales I had a very sweet encounter with a wren as I sat on an old stone wall at a castle there.

"
YOU CAME AND SAT UPON MY WALL
UNAFRAID AND VERY SMALL
YOU LOOKED AT ME
I LOOKED AT YOU
IT SEEMED YOU HADN’T A SINGLE CLUE
OF WHY I STOOD WITHIN YOUR SPACE
A PUZZLED EXPRESSION ON MY FACE

YOU BEGAN TO SING A LITTLE SONG
WHICH DIDN’T LAST SO VERY LONG
IT MADE ME SMILE
IT TOUCHED MY HEART
YOUR TUNE A LOVELY WORK OF ART
TOOK MY BREATH AND MADE ME THINK
THEN OFF YOU FLEW IN ONE QUICK WINK

I DIDN’T SEE WHICH WAY YOU WENT
BUT I KNEW THAT YOU WERE HEAVEN SENT
ONE MOMENT IN TIME
SENT JUST TO ME
A DAUNTING TASK FOR ONE SO WEE
TO LIFT ME UP AND CHEER WITHIN
AND ALWAYS MAKE ME REMEMBER WHEN

YOU CAME AND SAT UPON MY WALL . . . . . . . .
