Evening Stars

Evening Stars

A Poem by Sinead Sammy
"

I don't understand why I write, so you don't have too either. It's okay.

"

I suppose,
the obscurity of your eyes scares me sometimes
with their sinister and nefarious glow that darkens the brightest of days
and the way they glaze over with eccentricity and thoughts of malice
and your contrasting patient smile
warm like the tinge of clover, burnt brown as it reached to kiss the sun
the corners of your mouth crack
as ice under foot does on a winter morning
and followed by a mellow laugh
soft as the songs of some shy hidden bird
from the low fields of woodlands nightly heard
your morose attitude shines along with benevolence
summer sparks between our smiles
free like a liberated ghost
your undeniable ability to control my moods
bring me from the darkest of places,
or throw me into oblivion
and yet I love you like the sun loves the evening stars.
