I slammed my locker in frustration and let out a bitter sigh. As I turned around to walk out of this dreaded school, Kayle was right in front of me. Literal terms? I slammed right into him.
"Well, hello, beautiful." He smiled and hugged me, and the overwhelming scent of roses invaded my sinuses. "Have a good day?" he asked politely. When he observed my face, which was in an obvious pout, he chuckled and said, "So I see I have my answer. Would you like to go somewhere and relax?"
I knew I should say no, knew I should deny going anywhere with someone I just met, but I heard myself saying yes.
"Good." He smiled and took my hand, leading me to the door, my escape.
"Tsk, tsk, Kayle, not introducing me to your new love interest. And here I thought you had manners!" The man smiled at me, but it was not a pretty smile. It was a cruel, misguided smile.
Kayle dropped my hand and stepped in front of me. "What I do is none of your business Arin."
The man who was across from Kayle, Arin I presume, turned his face towards the ceiling. "You're right, it's not. But I'm going to make it my business, and it starts with her."
I had my hands gathered and my chest and I could feel Kayle step back into them. I could feel him trembling with every word he spoke.
"I don't think she's your business either."
"How so? Did you not forget what's going on? Or are you just stupid?"
"I know exactly what's going on, don't insult me."
"Or what, Kayle? Tell me, what can you do that I cannot retaliate by? I can destroy you with a flick of my finger, and you know it," Arin smiled again and step forward, open palmed "so hand her over, and all will be left peacefully."
Kayle breathed in a ragged breath. "And if I do not?"
Arin looked around. "I'll have you both killed in a matter of time."
His words left everything stunned and eletrified, and Kayle turned around and looked me deep in the eyes. Torture filled his.
"I understand you do not know what is going on here Jaci, and I wish you didn't have to," he sighed and continued, "go with him. I'm sure he'll explain it later." He bent down and kissed me softly, and gathered me in his arms. "I'll be back for you, one way or another, remember that."
And then he was gone, again. This time, no note was left behind to fill me with another hope of a visit.
Arin walked towards me and pinned me agaisnt my locker.
"You see, Jaci, everything that's going on, takes a lot to explain. So I'll ask nicely, come with me." When I didnt move, he stood up straight, towering over me. "Or I can take you."
And then I was swimming in hues of black.
* * *
I woke up to a sinister laugh and clicking of shoes on polished wood.
"It's funny, Jaci. Your name is Jaci, right?" He asked as he made his way from one end of the room to the other.
I nodded my head and stiffled a groan. My body shook with pain.
"As I was saying, Jaci, it's funny that you and Kayle spend so much time together. Hilarious, in my opinion."
I could still taste blood in my mouth from whatever had happened before. "I find your sense of humor incredibly dry." I spit at him.
He sighed and walked over to me, and sat down. My entire body grew tense. When he layed his hand to rest of my leg I all but lashed out.
"Why fight? You know nothing of what's going on between him and I, do you? No, let me answer that for you, you have no idea. Would you like to hear a story?"
"Do I have a choice?"
He smiled a real smile this time, and I could see dimples right by his lower lip. His dark black hair fell into his gray cobble stone eyes, which he closed and proceeded to slink his body to the floor.
"You see, Jaci, Kayle is nothing like you think. He is human and isn't."
I started laughing and bega to get up, but before i knew it Arin was on top of me and pinning me down.
I stared into his wolf eyes. "You expect me to believe this?"
He sneered. "What else have you got to hang on too, huh?"
"So what is Kayle? What are you?"
He licked his lips and slighty parted them, showing elegant white teeth. "We are people, dearest, but we possess no soul. We walk freely, and possess only one ability, to save people. But some of us.. deal with better matters."
"You deal with 'better matters', in your terms, do you not?"
"Aw, have me figured out so quickly Jaci? Since you're so smart, why don't you tell me what exactly I do?"
I layed my head on the cold ground. "I haven't the slightest clue."
"Exactly. Darlin', our kind, yes I mean me and Kayle, our kind can take the purest of souls away if we don't control ourselves when tempted. And, little Jaci, I'm very tempted."
He shifted his weght and pulled my arms above my head and dipped his head so that his lips were above mine.
"Do you have any idea if it will hurt?" He questioned.
"I don't know." I hissed, growing impatient.
He smiled sweetly. "Then lets find out."
He layed his lips on mine, but it was a gentle tug like Kayle's lips. I felt the world around me spin and my chest tighten.
And I could feel Arin smile agaisnt my lips.
