Ch8 - GuidanceA Chapter by SinTrustlessThere is a difference between guiding and directing.
Purpura walked, deep in thought, and with a solemn look on his face.
Black was following, though his expression was mostly annoyance and a good bit of anger. They were walking away from the house, approaching the invisible line of the witch's spell. Purpura stopped and looked to Black. "What?" Black asked, pausing. Purpura looked away, he had nothing to really say. He knew though, the instant they crossed that line Black would teleport away. Black's anger was building, and Purpura wasn't sure a conversation with his mother would go peacefully. Black grumbled, "Move, I have somewhere to be." He said moving to pass Purpura. Reacting quickly, Purpura grabbed Black's arm. Black took a deep breath and looked to him, "What? Speak or release me." Purpura reached his other hand into his pocket. Black rolled his eyes a bit, "I'm not taking another contract, so forget it." Purpura pulled out a small trinket, and showed it to Black. "What's this?" Black asked reaching his hand out, and Purpura gently set the item in his palm. Black looked at it, examining it, "It's my crest. Why do you have this?" Purpura didn't want to go into it, so he just pointed to it. Black grumbled, and held it closer to get a better look. "There's words marked into the back of it..." Purpura nodded, and motioned for him to read. Black looked to him, "It's a language I don't know." Purpura pointed to himself. "Neko?" Purpura nodded. "My understanding of written neko is rudimentary at best. And why are you showing me my crest with neko carved into the back?" Purpura pointed again to the words. "I can't read it." Purpura pointed slowly to each word. Black sighed, "Fine, I'll sound it out." He squinted a little as he sounded out the words. Finally he finished, and looked to Purpura. "I'm fairly sure I butchered that." Purpura quickly snatched the crest and went on. Black went wide-eyed. "What the hell was that about?!" he shouted as he hurried after Purpura. "What are you playing at?!" he said, and Purpura kept walking. Black stopped, "I'm not playing this stupid game with you! I have to talk to my mother." He waved his hand, before looking confused. He looked at his hand then about. Purpura glanced to him, before avoiding eye contact and continuing on. Black had looked to Purpura before running after him, "What did you do?! I am not in the mood for your bull!" Purpura looked back and started running, and Black quickly chased. The two were running for a decent while, occasionally Black nearly caught Purpura but he managed to stay just out of his reach. Finally Purpura stopped and Black tackled him, and readied to punch him. A soft voice rang out, "Can I help you two?" Black paused and looked up, standing a couple feet away was a neko. The neko had purple hair parted by cat like ears and a sleek matching tail. The neko's expression was soft, with a touch of disappointment. Black felt a bit frozen, and Purpura pushed him off. Black righted himself, still staring at the neko. Purpura looked from Black to the neko and back. Black quietly spoke, "Who...?" The neko smiled softly, a smile that would warm your heart on even the coldest day. "My name is Sin, Sin Trustless. And who might you be, young man?" Black seemed at a complete loss for words. "Trustless- Like the Trustless Kingdom?" Sin smiled, "Yes, exactly." Black looked to Purpura a moment then stared at Sin. "My name is-" Sin raised their hand causing Black to practically hold his breath, "You look to be an assassin. Perhaps if you desire to share your name, you should get changed first." Sin turned and began walking away. Black followed, seemingly hypnotized. Purpura smirked and followed as well. Black looked to Purpura, "Is that-?" Purpura smiled, and Black felt meek for the first time in his life. They eventually came to a waterfall and Sin continued behind it. Black looked about curiously, and followed into the cave behind the waterfall. Purpura was watching him before they came to the large house hidden inside. Sin went up to the front door, and opened it. "There should be extra clothing upstairs, Purpura can show you where." Black looked back to Purpura, before continuing inside. He was looking all about, before Purpura passed him, and motioned for him to follow. Black followed up the stairs, and Purpura went left opening the door and heading in. Black looked about the room, as Purpura went to a dresser. "Is this... you room?" he asked. Purpura looked to him, and nodded before tossing him some clothes. Black caught them, almost dropping them. Purpura then grabbed a few things and went thru another door to what Black glanced to see was a bathroom. Black got changed looking all about as he did. He felt fascinated with every object in the room. He took his metallic mask off and simply set it on the dresser. Purpura emerged, having changed and showered. His hair was a little wet still, but he was dressed. His hair was its natural purple color, instead of stained with blood. Purpura looked to Black, before hanging his towel. Black looked to the door, "Why, are we at your house?" Purpura chuckled, and motioned with his hand low to the ground. Black looked a moment, "Small? Oh, child. Your childhood home. Why are we at your childhood home?" Purpura shrugged and walked out of the room, heading downstairs. Black followed, "I need to go home, and confront my mother about this secret she's been-" He felt frozen again, seeing the neko cooking in the kitchen. Sin looked to them, "Ah, much better." Purpura went over, and Sin gently ruffled his hair making Purpura's ears perk up. Sin giggled, and looked to Black. "Are you hungry, dear?" Sin asked. Black nodded absently. "Perfect, and food allergies?" He shook his head no, and Sin smiled and turned about returning to cooking. Black watched Sin as he went to the dining table where Purpura had sat down. Black cautiously sat, and leaned to Purpura to speak. But Sin chirped, "Ah, so what was your name dear?" Black practically blurted, "Tynan." Sin looked to him and smiled, "Good to meet you, Tynan, it's nice to see Damiaan bring home a friend." Tynan glanced to Purpura. "Your name is actually Damiaan? I thought you made that up." Purpura chuckled, as did Sin. "He was named after his father." Sin said, taking down some dishes. "So... Damiaan junior?" Tynan asked. Sin giggled, "No, no. Damiaan's name is the neko translation of the same word as his father's name." "Oh..." Tynan said quietly, he wanted to know more, but was afraid to ask. Sin then came over, and set down bowls infront of each of them. "Enjoy." Sin said, returning to the kitchen and making another bowl. Purpura ate, and Tynan turned to eat as well. Sin came over and sat down, and quietly began eating as well. The food was warm and the warmth seemed to flow thru them. Tynan felt most of his stress melting away. "So, Tynan how did you two meet?" Tynan swallowed, "Uh, we met... as children." Sin nodded, "Aw, that's sweet. Were you the one who gave Damiaan the ribbon?" Tynan blinked a bit, and looked to Purpura, then Sin. "Ribbon? I... well yea, what does that have to do with anything?" Sin giggled, "Oh, it's nothing. Was just a pretty ribbon. Do you have another?" "Well, yes. The maker insisted on a set." Sin giggled, "Keep it safe." Purpura and Tynan looked perplexed. "I have icecream." Sin said getting up. "What flavors would you two like?" Purpura gently got up and took his bowl to the sink and rinsed it out. Tynan followed suit, before Purpura went to the freezer and examined the options. He grabbed a popsicle, and smiled before walking to the living room across the hall. Tynan watched Purpura, then examined the fridge, "There's so many flavors." Sin looked to him, cleaning up and putting away leftovers. "Ah, yes. I try to keep a variety. Each kid visits randomly, so I try to keep all their favorites, plus my own." Tynan easily took one, and opened it. "Can I... ask you something?' Sin smiled, "Sure, ask away." "You are... Damiaan's mother, correct?" Sin nodded, "Yes." "Then... Doesn't that make you the heir apparent to the Trustless kingdom?" Sin gave a soft smiled, "Well, yes. But I gave up that right, when I originally married." "What do you mean?" Sin gently finished, "Well, my husband... was not approved. The neko kingdoms, are generally very accepting of all races, and genders when it comes to these things. But my husband, Damiaan's father, was a blood demon. One of the last natural born. But, the Heartless Empire considers any blood demon a threat, with strict kill on sight laws. Considering how fragile the Heartless/Trustless relation is at any given moment, they couldn't risk the Heartless Empire's reaction. So, I gave up my right, and married the man I loved. But, being the only heir Damiaan was quickly named my successor when he was born." "They... didn't care that he was half blood demon?" Sin giggled, "They figured they could hide it." Sin said, walking to the living room. Tynan followed, "Can I ask more questions?" "Sure. Damiaan isn't a great conversationalist." Purpura was munching on his popsicle, content to let them talk. Tynan smiled and looked back to Sin, and the two spoke for a good while. Eventually Purpura went back upstairs, to relax. After a bit Tynan said, "My next question is... Well, it's more a request for advice." "Sure, though the topic will determine how useful my advice is." Sin said. Tynan nodded, "Well... I recently found out, that my mother lied to me. Like... my whole life. She'd lied to the man I thought was my father, and everyone in- the family." Sin nodded, softly. "What did she lie about?" "My heritage. She was having trouble conceiving, and had an affair with a Kelpshin. I am the product of that union, but she lied to everyone she told everyone I was a gift from the gods. And that's why my eyes are green." Sin seemed to think a moment, "Well, I'm not a master of politics. But I feel like she might have been trying to protect you. I know the Heartless Empire considers Kelpshins their sworn enemies. Nekos don't hold the same prejudice." "Surely there's some species nekos naturally hate." "Water sprites, but that's simply a conflict of interest, we don't go out of our way to fight them or anything." Tynan chuckled, "Okay." Sin continued, "Anyway, being the child of an affair and of enemy species... I imagine had she told the truth it would have ruined her marriage, and gotten both of you out casted from most of society. She would have had to leave her home, and take you far away to where no one knew her. She'd have to try to start over, and hope no one learned the truth of either of you. That's not to say your father wouldn't have been furious, possibly killing you and her." Tynan was quiet, that did sound like something his father might do. "But, why not tell me?" he asked. "Perhaps simply to avoid sharing her burden with you. If you didn't know, you wouldn't be forced to lie. Asking a child to lie about who they are, can be detrimental. They start lying at a young age, and fear the truth will be exposed. I was lucky enough to live out here. Damiaan had no need to keep such a secret from anyone, until he was old enough to understand. Even then, he was in an environment where people wouldn't question it. His school treasured each race, for their skill. Politics didn't play a part in their education." "His school is funded by the Heartless Family though." Sin giggled, "When has anyone been told all the secrets within the walls?" Tynan blinked a few times and sat back. "So, you're saying she was protecting me... So, I shouldn't be mad at her." Sin thought a moment, "No. You have all rights to be mad at whomever you want. I'm simply saying, don't forget to see her side." Sin stood up, "Seeing the other side of any situation is key when you're king." Tynan blinked a few times, and watched Sin walk out. He looked back to the fire crackling away. © 2017 SinTrustless |
