Something That There Never Was

Something That There Never Was

A Poem by S.T.

Those days you'd walk
The times you'd talk.
A friend, just that, nothing more.
For how could you be, when you knew for sure.

Confused if that
He was never yours.
Accept that all he ever sees you as is you.

You are a friend
a companion, a pal.
A cheerful smile to talk to.
But little did you never know
His feelings were more.
He was subtle, smooth, a flirt.
But at the time, all you knew was hurt.
Your walls were up
He broke them down.
His cheerful smile never seemed to rid your frown.

Then one day you noticed the flirt.
You asked.
He rejected.
He crushed your thoughts that you could ever be anything.
For all you could ever be, is just a school fling.

The more you thought
The more you felt.
Emotions are  Gamble.
You decide to play it safe
Because after all, you were too late.

Another girl
Another heart shattered.
And at that point, nothing mattered.
You felt so dumb that anything could happen
You felt a fool you even tried.
You tried to stay your distance.

But even that didn't stop him.
He continued the cheeky smile
She pretended to be okay for the short while.
She's lost, confused, depressed if that
But she continued to wear her happy hat.

The conversations never grew.
But after all, who could ever like you?
