Mother Remind UsA Poem by J.E.BReflection on familial bonds amidst diversity, with a plea for unityAs a mama’s child, I, the fourth from East, laments Yet, as a civilized family, hate hasn’t ceased Harvey, akin from distance shores, still roars divisive word He thinks you sold him to a distant land for a pair of shoes Lasisi, a daughter from West, persists in darker hues A legacy of history, that soothes m’ heart to sleeps Choukri, a son from North, wants to walk separate path He, Choukri, wants to akin those across the red bath Ngoma, son of South, thinks is upgrade version of us While we share the same mother, he think’s superior to us But in my heart, I know we are equal n’ share same love Yes! Harvey, Lasisi, Choukri, Ngoma, and I, are original people For in unity, no need for us to seek others' wicked game Mother, remind us of the bond we shared, why unity glows And the hardship yet awaits us against our distant cousins Mother, remind us if we don’t let prejudice erase Forget not the past, forgiveness not to evade We will never survive against our distant cousins n’ ourselve’ Remind us again if we embrace hate, shame, and prejudice Harvey, Lasisi, Choukri, Ngoma, n’ I, shall never be complete © 2024 J.E.B |
