Lost in Orbit

Lost in Orbit

A Poem by Simone V. Min

The brightest of stars
Shine in the darkest of nights.
A map charted from the heavens
I am never lost--
not until the darkness fades.
In its ebb and flow,
As the darkness gives way to dawn,
I feel lost in the light.
Where everything is set right
There is no pain to set me afire,
There are no dreams to make me run,
There is no purpose that makes me fight,
There are no tears to prove I bleed.
Basking in this numbing respite,
I go through life 'round and 'round in circles
Just as this world pirouettes around the sun--
Going through the elaborate motions of living
Without ever quite feeling alive;
Walking the world of the waking,
Not knowing why I go where I go.
Living only because I cannot die.
At times when the stars are obscured,
I sit and wait, wallowing in the dark.
I have come to treasure the night.
Tell me, as the darkness wanes,
Is it wrong to fear the light?
