Masquerade

Masquerade

A Poem by Simone Davis

Shards of glass lay around glistening a small sharp piece catches my eye

fearfully with caution I pick up the glass

I see my distortion

I begin to cry

I see the beast inside of me

great destruction

it’s taking over me

helplessly I long to be the person that you want me to be

I’m not the monster you think I am

It’s not a mystery

but
humanity

I am only as truthful as I can be

So

I’ll ask you honestly

take this mask away from me
