When We Were YoungA Poem by Simon J HallidayToday's Poem
When We Were Young
The days were long when we were young And to each hope and dream we clung Because as children that's the stuff Which keeps us going when things seem rough But look now, what has really changed? Has life been so much rearranged That hopes and dreams no longer dwell Great visions we have and need to tell It's time to reconnect and see The best things in this life are free And 'though bleak minds will argue on The truth is stronger than this con For letters and numbers learned at school Can be passed 'round by any fool And science in all its great intent Is sold as seen, our thoughts were spent And what is next when this is done Has knowledge led on, have things been won? A disconnect in life's true way Now where's the answer, what to say? The searching must go on until The goal is found through strength of will Nobody else will build your plan It's yours alone, so know you can And sometimes life's supreme surprise So long concealed from wandering eyes Is simpler than we'd ever have guessed Takes so much toil to find our rest Then here we come to what we sought The dream from childhood we have brought Through many mistakes and misplaced trust We finally learn in time, we must! We know the choices we must make And now it's time, we're wide awake Continue the song we first had sung The dreams we had when we were young (c) Simon J. Halliday 2013 For more info. on Simon J.
