The Cuckoo

The cuckoo may come, but have no fear
For friends are also very near
Remember who you need to see
And talk each day, be open and free

For if you close your heart to truth
Recoiling when it bears a tooth
You'll never move on to where you're called
You're hopes and dreams, forever stalled

So whilst there's time and life prevails
Please speak your mind, it never fails
You may hurt some and help the rest
So what?  The truth is always best

Your nest is warm, the chicks are fed
The evening fades, you're all in bed
Be sure tomorrow, something new
Either with or without you

Don't be naive, stay wide awake
Don't let the cuckoo try to take
Your heart or wallet, or even your soul
For one of these will be his goal

Now don't be scared by what you know
For earthly things one day will go
We're passing through, so have no fear
The cuckoo moves on, but love stays near
