The Fruit Tree

Glistening for the human eye
The fruit on this tree cannot die
It lures and pulls at every heart
And no-one knows the reason why

The first who eats will quickly choke
So cruel it seems, is this a joke?
But there's no way around this truth
The fruit won't change, nor pain revoke

If tempted by its golden sheen
Think twice about the trick you've seen
By now you should have learned the fact
That danger sometimes smiles, serene

So days and days will pass in sin
And still the lesson has not sunk in
This fruit which all enjoy so well
Will keep on shining though none can win

So here's the tip which should be told
If help is what we give this fold
When finding this tree of sparkling fruit
Have some respect, don't be too bold
For if you have the strength to pass
And move toward a different class
Then pure unending joy is yours
And harmless fruit lies on the grass
