Chapter 3: Planning

The time had come, the Egyptians planned to have me hanged.  I had thought desperately over the last few days.  I might have been able to come up with an escape plan, if I'd seen anywhere but my prison cell.  I had no idea where I was going to be hanged, no idea where I would go if I did escape, and I had no idea how I was going to get out of this alive.  The only thing I had to go off of was the fact that I'd probably need Herodes to get out of this place at all.

I had tried to make weapons, but to no avail.  The Egyptians were good at making weapon proof cells.  I would've picked the lock by now if I had my dagger.  But of course, that was taken from me along with everything else I had with me before the capture.   

There was a click as the door to my cell unlocked.  The door opened and in came non other than Herodes.  He studied me for a moment.

"You look much better," He said.  Probably talking about the fact that I didn't look like I might pass out anymore.

"Ya, once the arrow wound started to heal I felt much better," I replied.  Then something occurred to me, "How did you get in here?"

"The guards let me in," He said.  "They always do when I ask.  They seem to think that there is no way for us to escape, so why not let us speak to each other.  Not all Egyptians are evil.  Most of the guards were forced to work here, they don't mind bending the rules slightly to get back at the officials."

"Oh," I muttered.  If only I had known this earlier.  

"Soooo," Herodes said. "What's the plan."

"What plan?" I asked.

"The plan for you to escape of course," He said, then as an afterthought.  "And preferably me too, if you could manage it"

"There is none, I have no ideas," I said, feeling worse than ever.  I might be Herodes' only hope for freedom.

"Well it's a good thing I do," He said.

"You have a plan?" I asked, my spirits picking up slightly.  "What is it?"  Herodes told him the plan and knew immediately afterward that it had a good chance of succeeding.  "It's worth a shot," I said.
