Darkness

Darkness

A Poem by Hunter C. Brown

The fear of darkness,
Really it's not the dark that your afraid of.
It's the feeling of the unknown that all humans cower from,
The bravest men would avoid things they didn't know of if they could.
Darkness itself is not scary,
It's the fact that you can't what's ahead of you.
Hence the unknown factor of it.
The problem is,
Life itself is a journey in which you face the unknown.
Fearing it will only force you to sit alone,
In a bright, white room curled into the beetle position.
That's why we suck it up,
And go out there anyway.
Ready to face the unknown,
Fear is fine when taken with logic to help you decide what to do.
Don't let something you can't control shape your destiny,
Shape your own destiny.
And the first thing to do is to accept the unknown,
And live on anyway.

What a beautiful piece of work about the element of darkness in our lives. You paint this picture so well! The didactic tone, the symbolism is all very special. You invoke a sense of this in your reader: Darkness is a part of our lives and yet in the face of it we have to remain but undaunted. Great work as usual =)

But it's the fear that makes us stronger. =) And you're right. When we don't know what the outcome will be, once we suck it up, we don't let anything stop us. That's courage, right? =) I really like this poem. It makes me think. Awesome job! xD

This was quite an inspirational and beautifully written poem. I have always said "Don't let your fears rule you" and this poem describes this perfectly. I throughly enjoyed reading this poem!

Man...just walking out the door is the unknown...we're taught to fear the dark places just by human nature but facing the unknown to us is much more accurate... very nicely put =)

Dark and sinister, a very great description of it. Oops bad grammar. Anyways, I really enjoyed it! A great read and entertaining. It is the unknown. Good job! Very different description than I have seen others give. Keep on writing!!
