Rough Roads

Don't give up just because of a couple rough roads.

Now we’ve been driving for such a long time,

Getting lost, saying we’re just friends,

But we both know we were just hiding our hearts,

Because this road trip’s had its rough roads but we’re so close to love.

 

So don’t let us run out of gas,

We’re closer than we’ve ever been to our destination.

So close to make these rough roads worth it.

Please don’t pull away, not now.

 

I want you to be happy,

Please tell me I make you happy,

Don’t let those little-big words be a mistake.

Don’t leave, not before we even got there.

 

These dirt roads have been tough on us,

But I don’t want love to be easy,

Because then what’s it worth?

All this dust flyin’ up around us, can’t blind my love.

 

Don’t let these rough roads discourage you,

I promise I’m a safe driver.

I’ve got a roadmap and a ton of time,

So we don’t need to rush, don’t need to make a mistake, just tell me you love me and I promise I’ll wait.

 

We’ve had to take a couple shortcuts,

To get past all our roadblocks,

But we did it,

And now we’re each other’s.

 

So don’t regret a thing,

There’s no pressure,

I’ll tell you I love you if you do the same to me,

Don’t leave because of a couple rough roads, just tell me.

God bless your soul! This is such a powerful writing. I am currently tearing up. I am at a time in my life right now, where I am in a relationship with a boy who I want to be more than a friend, but the only thing holding us back from pouring our love for one another is me. I tend to shut out the ones who just want to be let in. He's doing everything right, and deserves someone to give the love he puts out. I'm scared to let him in, but I'm ever more scared of loosing him. I have never let anyone in fully, so I am flustered. This poem is everything and more. Amazing job!
