Cruelty & Cruelty-Disguised

Cruelty & Cruelty-Disguised

A Poem by Otsana

I see it everyday, I see it everywhere

and yet we blind our own sight, we turn

down the volume to the reality of our life
we seek cruelty in one, this is a matter of masses
hunting down perspective we hesitate not!

to pull the trigger on our weapon and BOOM!
This illusion lay dead and somehow cruelty,
it lives on, we deafen our own sounds
easing, emptying our own minds so that
we are ready for the second round, of lies!

we tell ourselves they are not, that we have
reason to blindfold our eyes and take shots
to mask the victim with our certainty and
expose the accused without evidence of any crime
are we just refusing to see, it can ruin lives!

of the vulnerable some would say, the ones

unprotected, the children of today but..
nothing has changed since yesterday,
now we simply fight cruelty with cruelty-disguised
we call it love, yes it might be! But what have we come to!

that we don’t even let our children

out to play, caging them in the depths

of our nests, we are afraid, that some day

someone might just come along and do everything

that is without any excuse wrong, in this world!

where you can taste on the tongue the hate

which has boiled within peoples lungs and then

they breath it and let it out as they pollute the

environment of which I care so much about

and we are suffocating, all you need do is look around!

at this world which we claim has no bounds

where we point our finger without any proof

spitting slurs of unkind words and let them

loose, hoping to not be the next victim of

this bullet of unjustifiable truths, and so we continue!

to pass on the blame to whichever poor soul

reaches this bloodthirsty aim, never once

looking at our own shame which is smeared

clearly across our guilt ridden face and so

the problem, forever stays the same.....

In ireland the peace process has consistently failed to surface to full potential because of the past. No one will begin by accepting their whole role in the carnage - all pointing the finger to the others saying '"What about this act of murder that THEY committed before our side retaliated" - they all want to avoid the blame yet they (we by extension) are all to blame. It has led to a new term entering the language - 'Whataboutery". You wrote whataboutery in eloquent terms here Otsana.
Great piece. Well done!

not a rant - not to me Otsana. I enjoy your thoughts.
Kudos
You went to many places and directions in the poem. I tell people. We can't allow fear to overtake us. Kids need to hold on to hope and be free as long as they can. It feel like a twisted world. We can't allow evil and bad people to make us believe the world is ugly. Sometimes we need to find beauty and good reason to be alive. Thank you for the amazing poetry. You open the door to many things to ponder.

Indeed very different, but I like it - people are quite the hypocrites at times. I sometimes doubt humanity will ever change its ways, because I don't think you can change human nature.
But we should not keep denying the truth, paint the world in black and white, disguise facts and give ugly things pretty names to make them sound better. So keep screaming the truth at peoples faces, gal! ;-)
