The rainy season has long passed and brought the warm season in its wake. The Iron Hearth was active with the seasonal travelers taking advantage of the nice weather to get trading done. The open windows brought in the cooling breeze and the occasional sound of a carriage rolling by on the worn path. The time of year that could put almost anyone in a positive mood. But when my eyes took to the windows it wasn’t sun I saw, but the patter of rain on the window from that day many months ago, the pull to look at the two now washed cups sitting unused under the bar forever strong. Since that day there has been no sight or news from Silver or where she went, yet my eyes always shift to the door whenever it opens no matter how much my chest hurts when I find it not her.

“Hey, Hunter, can I get another round of ale over here?” a guy from one of the table waves at me.

“Sure, one moment.” I reach behind me for the mugs and filled them appreciatively with ale before heading to the table and passing them about. The sound of the door opening behind me,

“Welcome, sit anywhere.” I say over my shoulder as I take the old mugs off the table and head back behind the bar and set them with the other to be washed later that day.

“I don’t suppose you have any of that famous honey mead still?” My head snapped to the familiar voice coming from the far side of the bar. At first I thought I was seeing things, brought to hallucinations by the want to see her again, but it was really her. Her long silver hair was pinned in a messy bun on the back of her head, bangs framing the curves of her face, her bright green eye now more of a sea green as if bleached by the sun.

“You know it has always been my favorite.” Her small smile quirked up slightly at the side, my own rising to my face.

“I’m sure I can find some for you.” I reply softly, reaching behind me and taking a bottle of the rack and a mug from under the bar, filling it with the sweat drink before placing it in front of her. She gives an appreciative nod before taking a sip, her smile softening at the taste. Her clothes were different than I last saw her, newer, richer, fine leather that hugged her curves and cotton that looked as soft as it probably felt. ‘Where have you been Silver?’ I thought sadly.

“Seems the nice weather has brought in quite a few customers.” She looks over the room at the customers happily talking and laughing. I nod my eyes not leaving her face after not seeing it for so long. Her eyes turned back to mine and I felt myself frown, her smile going away with it.

“Listen, Silvernia, we need to talk.” I say quietly, her eyes lowering to the cup. She gave a small nod.

“Yes…we do. But not right now okay.” Her eyes lifting to mine, a sad smile now there. “Lets not spoil this nice day.”

I sigh softly but nod in understanding. “Alright, we’ll talk later when everyone has gone for the night. Okay?”

“Alright.” She replies, silently going back to her drink. I turn and head back to tending the other customers, eyes often returning to her to make sure she was still there. That she was really back.
