Lies

Lies

A Poem by Silver
"

The mask that saves us from our minds.

"
Y'know when you trust someone
You give 'em all they ask
But it turns out their true self
Was hiding behind a mask

All that effort, the time it took
Ends up being in vain
You just wanted them to be happy
But all it did was bring you pain

You know it's not your fault
You couldn't have guessed that they lied
But you wonder what was in their head
You're trying to think from their side

What could've caused this?
Was it all because of you?
Do they think you're that bad?
Could it really be true?

But it may not be the case
Think, for your own mental health
Maybe they actually liked you
And the problem was themselves

Sometimes lies don't make sense. But if you were in their place, you probably would've done the same thing.

This reminds me of an old best friend of mine. I say "old" because we aren't friends anymore. She was the best thing ever and then she changed so much that I felt guilty every time I hung out with her, like I was sinning or something. And then she just shoved me away, this poem I think, is perfect for what happened to our friendship. Thank you.
