Pretender

Pretender

A Poem by SilverTearRusted

Who are you to pretend to be
Walking in my shoes
To know anything about me
But if you're that hell bent
You can take the latter half my teens

Live a week on the floor of concrete cell
Pretend you're alright
Pretend somebody cares
Then pick up your dignity and try to comprehend
How you ended up here... here at the end

Cause every day could be your last
Every slap just snaps you back
Every bed restrains your soul
Behind your eyes your story is told

Go ahead and walk a day in my life
Try to silence the memory of the knife
Or the gun... or the fist... or the belt... or the sin
Then come back for more and we can do this again

But please stop pretending
And take it with you when you go
It's about time that my conscience
Sleep at peace with my soul
