A brief guide to the pronunciation of the various names in Travelers of the Gredhe.
Name
Pronunciation Guide
As a summary of
pronunciations, there are few rules that remain constant. They are as follows:
ae -- This is pronounced ay with the “y” being very subtle;
almost as though an afterthought.
celi -- The pronunciation
of this prefix relies completely upon the letter following it. If the letter is
a vowel, as in Celianam, it is pronounced sell-yih-.
However, if the letter following is a consonant, as in Celik, it becomes key-lih-.
dh -- The “dh” is pronounced
much the same as ”th.” These are often used interchangeably, to form variant
spellings of the same name; though the “dh” is more typical of Old Tongue names
and terms.
wr -- Coming from the
Old Tongue, the use of “wr” would be pronounced much as if the “w” was an “i.”
Below is a small
collection of the many names which are found in Travelers of the Gredhe. I shall strive to provide the most
accurate pronunciation for each term as is possible. In addition, some terms
are closer in pronunciation to the Old Tongue. For these, I will give a short
explanation.
Akkheron (‘ack-er-on)
Alimnae (a-‘lim-nay)
Arun (‘oar- ən) Taken from the Old
Tongue, the spelling and pronunciation of this name don’t appear to coincide. A
more modern and common spelling is Orin.
Bekhron (‘beck-roan) Partially stemming from the Dark Tongue,
Bekhron’s first syllable is spoken with a somewhat phlegm-y sound to it.
Burgamsia (ber-‘gam-shə)
Bwynarr (bwih-‘nahr)
Celianam(‘sell-yih-nahm)
Celik (‘key-lick)
Dallifae (‘dal-ih-fay)
Edileth(‘ed-ih-leth)
Elaborathin (eh-lə-‘boar-ə-thin)
Faedhmíl (faith-‘meal)
Fekklorn(‘fehk-lorn)
Feridh (‘fair-ith)
Gael-Narenth (‘gale
‘nah-renth)
Hiddhom(‘hih-thəm)
Ínarrym (‘ee-nahr-im)
Jemmik(‘gem-ick)
Joenek (‘jo-en-ek)
Kerindh (‘care-inth)
Khaman (‘kah-mən)
La’el(lah-‘ehl)
Lerecht (‘lare-ekt)
Marrik(‘mare-ick)
Mínet(‘mee-net)
Naine Mithale (‘nane-ə ‘mee-thall) When used to describe
something of the world, as in Mithalean,
the pronunciation is ‘mee-thall-ehn.
Ormnoyr (oarm-‘noyr) The oy
of the second syllable sounds, vaguely, like the oi in noise.
Pemme-Rinne (pehm
‘rihn)
Repind (‘reh-pind)
Rikuu (‘ree-koo)
Seal Weiv (‘shale ‘wabe) Coming from the Old Tongue, the modern
spelling is Shal Waeb
EDIT -- This used to be the "Glossary of Names and Terms." However, I've been re-working a few things and have decided to split pronunciations and definitions. I will now be putting the Glossary at the end of my book, leaving the beginning to the pronunciations.

I love that you did this. I like extreme levels of detail like this. You obviously went into painstaking detail to create your world. I respect that greatly! I will delve deeper into this story when I get a bit more free time, but even this alone makes me optimistic about it

Take all the time you need. I'm not looking for quick words of false flattery, but for opinions and words of advise.
Thank you again, for taking the time to look at this.
I'm already really interested, and I haven't yet read any story. I love these glossaries for stories, in fantasy realms. Very Tolkien-esque. And like I said, I know nothing of the story.

Sounds cool i should think about doing something like this in my Realm series and side books (Emily and reality of the truth) i give translations and sometimes pronunciation in brackets withing the chapter but i have never written up an entire Glossary.
Your creativity with this is amazing! For you to come up with all of these exotic names and give us a breakdown is definitely something I have not seen before on this site. I am really looking forward to diving into the story now!

I have great fun coming up with the different names, and I want people to understand them as I do. I try my best to explain the words as I write, but I figured this would help, in case I failed, in some regard, to explain them thoroughly.

As far as your question of the story's equivalent to Heaven...I have not decided, as of yet. I usually come up with the names as the need arises; when a new character or location, etc. is introduced, I come up with a name on the spot. There are a few exceptions. I have, however, been playing around with a few names for their Heaven. I haven't found any that I'm overly ecstatic about, but my favourite, thus far, is Sihlfae.
A child of the Living God, I incorporate my beliefs into my writing.
I am quite old-fashioned for my age, and often feel that I ought to have been born in a different era.
