Midori stomped off into the forest and has a surprise meeting with a familiar person.

"

Midori sought out a place to blow off some steam. She headed off into the forest with Kiki keeping pace with her. The forest would be the most likely place to offer the seclusion she wanted. The area was quiet. It lacked the constant chatter of civilization and offered the calming sounds of small creatures skittering around and the natural songs of the birds.

The young silvery-haired gir wandered over to a tree after she felt she had placed enough distance between herself and the village. She leaned her back against the tree and allowed herself to slide down to the trunk. Roots of the tree protruded the soft earth around its base.

Midori sighed and knocked her head against the tree. The small brown pup sat down beside her. Midori regretted her outburst and snapping at Kiba like that. The wild boy was her first friend in Konoha and there was nothing that really kept him around. Not only that, he had been thoughtful enough to show her around. Midori hoped that Kiba would forgive her.

A soft rustling in the bushes across from Midori alerted her and Kiki. She stared hard at the bushes, waiting for something to come out. It was more than likely just a rabbit or another local animal, but for Midori it sounded too loud for a cautious creature.

As her mind raced, Midori's hand slid into her weapon bag Sasuke had helped her get previously and pulled out three kunai. She threw one into the bush to at least startle whatever remained concealed. There was no response and everything was silent.

Kiki's voice protruded the silence as she barked and growled beside Midori. The girl looked down at the pup, surprised by her reaction. Just then something pierced the air and got embedded deep into the old oak tree level with her eyes. Midori gasped and flinched away.

Some strands of Midori's hair floated down to her hand. She had moved just in time to avoid the hit and instead had only a bit of hair cut short by the myterious kunai. If she would have failed to move in time, she would have lost her life in an instant.

Midori's amber gaze shot back to the bush across from her that remained lifeless besides the faint rustle that caused its branches to tremble. Midori suddenly felt Kiki's little paws prod at her hand and bark urgently. The pup was barking upward to the canopy of leaves above their heads. Midori looked at the pup, then followed her gaze up the oak tree.

Another kunai flew past them, this time it was aimed at Kiki and it cut her ear. The little pup started to whimper. Midori looked back down and pulled Kiki into her arms before she glanced back up the tree. Hidden within the leaves, cold red eyes stared back at her.

Midori gasped in surprise and jumped away from the tree. She spun around and held Kiki under her arm while the other hand was ready with two kunai still at the ready to be thrown. She launched one into the canopy f tree's, but there was no sign of making contact with the figure.

A sharp mix of fear and anxiety ran through Midori at the sight of that all too familiar gaze. "Who are you?! What do you want?!" she asked with as hard a voice as she could manage. Cold hands gripped her wrists and twisted them behind her back. Kiki landed on her paws and started to growl threateningly at the unseen person.

"Now...what's an inexperienced young genin girl doing out here alone?" a voice like icey blades cut through the air. Midori writhed around trying to loosen her captor's grip, but her efforts proved futile.

"What's a b*****d like you doing here?" Midori hissed at him. Her amber eyes flared like hell's fire, locked to the figure that revealed himself from the bushes. The dark-haired man ran the side of his hand down the side of her cheek. "You've grown. Your hate gives you strength and pushes you toward your goal." the man said.

Midori tossed her head away from his hand defiantly. "Who are you?" she demanded again in a raspy tone. "Itachi Uchiha" he finally replied with a smirk. Midori looked him in the eyes again. Itachi's face was hard and strained. His dark red eyes however were tired and almost hollow.

Kiki started to bark and growl again, but this time she bit the man who was holding Midori's arms back. He let go of the girl and kicked Kiki hard into a nearby tree. The pup's confrontation ceased and she lay unconcious. Blood still trickled down her head from her torn ear and one of her forelegs was twisted awkwardly. "No!" Midori cried out.

Suddenly, Midori spun back to Itachi with her last kunai gripped tightly in her hand. She used all her strength to drive her weapon into the mans stomach. Itachi lurched frward as she pulled it back out and spun again to slice at the one who hurt Kiki.

She slashed open his stomach and ran by as swiftly as she could to her friend. Midori scooped her up into her arms. Without looking back, she ran into Konoha and to her apartment.

When Midori reached home she quickly unlocked the door, launched herself inside and lay her injured friend on the couch. Then she lunged back at the door to close anlock it. She leaned her back against the door and slid down to the floor.

Tears began to tumble down her cheeks. Midori closed her amber eyes tightly. She hated the thought of running away and wished she could have ripped both men apart, but she was fully aware she did not stand a chance.

Kiki had been hurt badly and Midori didn't know what to do. The tears increased at the thought of losing her precious friend and companion. She did not believe she could make it if she were to lose another.
