Midori sat up abruptly and her eyes flew open. Her eyes were stung by the sudden bright lights and a white room.
"Ah!" she gasped loudly and fell back in the bed. Midori looked around as her eyes adjusted to the brightness of the room. She noticed the small table by her head. It had a glass of water sitting on it and on the other side of it sat an empty chair.
"A hospital? But how...?" she wondered. She glanced at the door as it slowly creaked open. Midori glared at the door, waiting to see who was on the other side of it. She blinked in surprise to see a man with gray hair, left eye covered with a sort of bandanna, and a cloth that covered his mouth. "Ah, your awake I see." the man said rather cheerfully. Midori gave him a puzzled look as she noticed his green vest.
"And you are?" he asked and pulled the chair away from the wall and placed it by the bed. He sat down and looked at her curiously. "Midori..." she answered cautiously. The man blinked as if surprised "Midori Hamatiko? Only daughter of Karina and Doku Hamatiko?" he asked.
Midori leaned away from the man. "Yes..." she answered slowly. "Well, I'm Kakashi Hatake. I knew your parents. We were friends." Kakashi told the suspicious Midori. Midori's heart lurched. "Mother...Father..." Midori said quietly. She felt a lump rise in her throat and her eyes welled up. She sat up in the bed and clenched some of the blanket in her fists. 'So...it wasn't a nightmare?' she thought painfully.
"So they are dead." Midori mumbled and tears began to roll down her cheeks. There was silence. Kakashi didn't say anything. After a long moment of silence, Kakashi changed the subject. "If you don't mind, I would like you to stay in Konoha and become a ninja of the Hidden Leaf Village." he spoke cheerfully. Midori shook the tears away and let go of the blanket.
Midori thought for a moment and replied dully "I will then. I have nowhere else to go." she agreed after she cleared her throat. "Good. We already have a place for you to stay. There are clothes already set out for you." Kakashi smiled. Midori gave him a weak smile in return. Midori thought that being a ninja would be good for a new life. "I'll leave your key on your stand here along with your address. I'll also send someone next day." Kakashi said and stood up. He went into his pocket and pulled out paper and a key, then left them on the table. "I'll see you tomorrow" he said with a wave over his shoulder and left after putting the chair back.
