Midori Hamatiko smiled and bowed her head modestly "Thanks for the rice balls Sarin-Chan!"
"Not a problem Midori. Thank you for helping me make them and gathering up the ingredients for me." an older woman smiled back. Midori waved goodbye to the lady and ran towards her house with her basket of home-made rice balls.
'That was the last errand for today, I got to get home before it gets too dark.' she thought cheerfully as she ran.
Midori arrived home when the last bit of sunlight began to fade into darkness and was surprised to see that the door had been left open slightly. Midori hesitated. Something seemed wrong. "Mom? Dad?" she whispered and slowly walked in.
Nothing seemed out of place in the first room so she walked into the dining room.
Midori gasped and wanted to scream, but something robbed her of her voice. There, in the dining room, her parents lay, their blood everywhere. She trembled with fear as she observed the horrific scene.
Her eyes widened when she spotted a shadowed figure standing by her parents' bodies.
The figure turned towards Midori, the only details visible was his strange red eyes that seemed to glow in the darkness. Midori blinked in surprise as the figure disappeared in a haze.
There was a sudden, constant breathing behind her. She dared not move. "Grow strong. Be filled with thy hate. Eventually, your life will be mine alone." the figure whispered. In an instant, everything was consumed by darkness.
