Why do you enthrall me so?

Why do you enthrall me so?

A Poem by Madeline

Why do I let you enthrall me so?

Let you speak with a silver tongue that comes all too natural?

I can't hold on to you any longer for fear of falling,

But somehow I just can't let you go.

Why do you tell me such stories?

Filled with wonderful words and underlying meanings.

I feel as though it is only I whom you tell,

As though on no one else's ears have your tales befallen,

And no one else's eyes have met yours for so long.

Why do you irritate me so, rubbing the wrong way as only you can do?

When you speak to others it is as if I am seeing a whole new person.

Like I see a side of you that they don't.

So brash, I have seen you be.

Using your [wonderful] voice to degrade their person instead of narrate their sorrows so sweetly.

Let me go, I beg you.

For I do not deserve you in the slightest.

I have deceived you all the time I have known you,

Showing you the falsely cheery thing I portray myself to be, when truly it is all I can do to keep living.

So go your own way, and I shall go mine.

We will forever both be trying to forget the shared secrets,

All the times we escaped in the nick of time, and all the times we did not.

We will spend the rest of our days shoving out of our minds the first time we held hands,

The first time we ran,

And the rest that I can not bear to write.

So if you could just tell me before you go,

Why do you enthrall me so?
