Two Paths Carved Into the Darkness

Two Paths Carved Into the Darkness

A Poem by Silent Angel

Two paths carved into the darkness

Gifts as old as time in each side

Two choices but only one way to go

And from this decision nowhere to hide

The path to the left shows hope and advancement

A single light bulb filling up the road

Strong but dull and lacking warmth

Yet endless light from it still flowed

The modern day comfort would not be wasted

But how long before it would leave?

Nothing is forever, and even time knows that

How much hurt would the death of it weave?

The path to the right shows something old but new

A danger and a comfort all the same

The small bonfire flickers in the darkness

A gift not all too easy to tame

Light and warmth and an endless supply

Who would refuse so much ease?

But what about the danger and the pain it can give?

Is the benefit worth the price not to freeze?

Two paths carved into the darkness

Shining light on a hopeless situation

The hardest decision that has ever been made

How could one resist the temptation?

The light bulb dull but safe and sure

Would the fire be worth the risk?

The flames provide warmth and light as well

But in one touch so much danger could whisk

Safe and sure or risky but at ease

So many questions to ask

Two options, each what is needed

Choosing was almost too hard a task

In the end no one could choose

The regret would hold down like a chain

So even though it was needed to survive

I turned and headed back into the darkness again
