Lost Fairytale Dreams

Lost Fairytale Dreams

A Poem by Silent Angel

We all know the stories

The Once Upon a Time

The tales of evil witches

With all the serious crime

But what comes next?

Happily Ever After?

That can’t be the end

A life filled with laughter?

If the stories are true

How can they end?

There has to be more

Loose ties to mend

The evil can’t be gone

The happiness forever

Are they just child’s stories?

That’s not very clever

Leading girls on

Believing in fairytales

Watching as their dreams

Take off on balloon tails

But then the dreams are dead

And the happiness is gone

I want a happily ever after

To walk into a new dawn

So what happens after?

That can’t be the end

Real life isn’t like that

Without a meaning to send

Marriage tends to end

Relationships fall apart

Rainbows don’t last long

The stupid don’t turn smart

No epic hero’s fall from the sky

Nobody saves us from fears

Rain falls down constantly

People still cry out tears

Wars still rage on

Innocent people still die

Food isn’t distributed equally

And all we can ask is why?

So why to fairytales tell these lies

With a Happily Ever After?

 Because nobody stays happy forever,

And death does not know laughter

Perhaps it is just that

In the light of our dark reality

We need these stories to heal

Beautiful tales with no actuality

This is a subject I have had many rants about and I must say I agree completely. Fairytales are very unrealistic they make out that every evil can be overcome and that good always defeates evil and this isn't the case. You have put these points into a beautiful poem and I like how it's not all negative because at the end of the day "in the light of our dark reality we need these stories to heal" and give us something to hope for. Amazing poem!
