Silent Angels Whisper * Part IV: Razbitye serdtsa suhie (Broken Hearts are Dry) - Chapter 13

A Chapter by Silent Angel

“I can’t believe we have to do this. Normal people don’t run around saving kids from mad scientists!” I exclaimed in a whisper as Lune and I pressed ourselves against the building.

Somehow within a five minute range I had recovered from all the horror and Lune and I had devised a plan on how to get Tom, Shavi, and Zori back. Of course, the plan was not going to go se well if we got caught, so both of us had to sneak through the vent system.

“You know, when I escaped this lab the first time I had no intention of coming back. It’s funny how life works.” I mumbled to Lune as we crawled down narrow square pipes, passing over little vents as we went.

“I know, and I’m sorry we have to come back. Unfortunately, life isn’t very fair.” Lune whispered back.

I shook my head in agreement and kept crawling until I came up to a vent with scientists crowded around a table. My heart caught in my throat as I saw Zori lying on a gurney-type table, strapped down with eyes wide and skin pale. I motion for Lune to come up next to me (which was a very tight squeeze) and both of us watched as the scientists asked Zori question which she refused to answer.

“Alright, I’m going to sneak down there and get Zori the heck out of there. I need you to keep going and find Tod and Shavi. If you can, grab them, if you can’t we’ll have to come up with a plan. Either way, meet me in front of the lab in an hour, okay?” I instructed Lune as adrenaline pumped through my body.

“Got it, now good luck, and be careful.” Lune whispered, looking right into my eyes.

“This is me you’re talking about. I’m never careful. Deal with it.” I joked, smiling at him.

Lune crawled down the chamber, looking for the rooms that held Shavi and Tod while I slowly unhinged the vent and quietly pulled it off the frame. Five of the scientists had left the room, and two were conversing in the corner while Zori closed her eyes and pretended to be anywhere but in a lab again.

I waited a few antagonizing minutes before one of the scientists left the room. I would have a lesser chance of being seen if there was only one freak in the room instead of two. Right under me was lab shelves with a bunch of beakers with chemicals of assorted colors on it. I slipped down onto the edge when the scientists back was turned and silently flipped over into a corner behind a counter.

The scientist turned around but he hadn’t seen me. The room was deathly quiet and while he shuffled through all of his papers (probably on Zori’s tri-polar-ness) I quickly came up with a plan. Just when I was about to play it out the six scientists returned and I was forced to not even breathe if I wanted to live.

“Now 908767654, we’re going to give a shot that has a chemical in it to take away your multiple personalities, okay?” one of the scientists said loudly and slowly, as if Zori was deaf, while holding up a beaker with red liquid.

I immediately recognized it. Not only could it make you a boring square, but a lot of times it had stopped hearts from beating almost instantly. Anyone who took that and their heart stopped beating died right away. There was no chance for living. I was not going to let them do that to my Zori.

Without thinking I launched myself from behind the counter and slammed into the scientists holding the beaker. She cried out in pain as I slammed her against the floor and the beaker broke, spilling red liquid across the white floor. One of the scientists was on me now, trying to stop me. But I was on a roll. So I spun around and punched him in the cheek, the blow knocking him down to the ground. Both of them had no energy to get up. Apparently experimenting on humans takes a lot out of you. Two down, four to go.

I grabbed a pipe off of a counter and spun, hitting a man right in the head and knocking him unconscious. A woman grabbed my arms and tried to take the pipe away but I pulled up my leg and slammed it into her stomach, causing the air to leave her chest. She slammed into a counter at top speed and empty beakers fell over her as she landed. One of the two men left grabbed a tazor gun and tried to taze me, but I grabbed it out of his hands and hit the button before he could, shocking him instead.

The last man standing stopped and stared at me after I had taken everyone else out. He let out a cry and ran away, arms flailing in all direction. But if I let him go he could easily get security. So I dove after him and yanked him to the ground, causing his head to smack to the tile floor. It was lights out for him within seconds.

After I made sure no one was moving to get up (which they were all unconscious so I didn’t need to worry about that) I raced over and cut Zori out the metal death bed. She burst into tears and through her arms around my neck. I stroked her hair for a second, knowing that we had to leave before someone else came into the room. One down, two to go.
