(They are likely to *still work* for you, whenever you read this.) ////////////////////////////////////////////////// I have a Windows 10 and a Windows 7 computer. I wished to connect them through my home network. I primarily wished to share their drives with each other. (Map Network Drive.) I prefer, to have bi-directional Drive Mapping, bi-directional Remote Desktop, and Auto-Logons on both machines. When using my 10 machine to map the C: drive of the 7 machine, I encountered an error: Network Error Windows cannot access.... You do not have permission to access.... Contact your administrator to request access. Error code: 0x80070035 I solved my problem. This is how I achieved my success. If you do this checklist, it'll work. (And if it's still not working after, you'll at least be far down the right path, with much less to isolate.) ////////////////////////////////////////////////// ** - BEFORE YOU PROCEED FURTHER WITH "MAP NETWORK DRIVE", PLEASE READ THIS NOTE ABOUT "REMOTE DESKTOP": When attempting to open my 7 machine from my 10 machine with Remote Desktop, I encountered an error, and it would not connect. On 7, in the System> Remote tab, the Remote Desktop control section, was absent. You can use Remote Desktop to Initiate, a Remote Desktop connection, from any edition of Windows 7. Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic and Home Premium DO NOT support Receiving, Remote Desktop connections. Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise DO support Receiving, Remote Desktop connections. SO IF YOU'D LIKE TO HAVE REMOTE DESKTOP IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE RIGHT VERSION. COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW TO UPGRADE, ARE HERE: (If you do NOT need to upgrade your Windows 7, skip down to ** - HOW TO SETUP AUTO-LOGONS.) ////////////////////////////////////////////////// ** - HOW TO OBTAIN WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL, ULTIMATE OR ENTERPRISE. Windows Anytime Upgrade ended. (Re-read that.) ////////////////////////////////////////////////// ** - HOW TO DOWNLOAD TORRENTS. ////////////////////////////////////////////////// 1. Install, and then use a *VPN* when downloading Torrents, (for your Security.) They aren't free yet. I like this one: https://nordvpn.com 2. Install the best (use the free version) Torrent *downloader*: https://www.utorrent.com 3. ** CONNECT, with Nord (or another) VPN. ** 4. Go to the best Torrent *site*: https://thepiratebay.org/ ////////////////////////////////////////////////// Enter: Windows 7 Pro 64 or Windows 7 Ultimate 64 (Whichever you'd prefer.) On the results page, click the column header called "SE", to sort the list starting with the most popular. You'll wish to begin downloading multiple copies, as some of them will end up not working. Open approximately the top 5-7 matching results in New Tabs, and then one-by-one: Into a Notepad (.txt) document, make a note of, (Copy & Paste:) 1. The torrent's Name/Title. 2. The accompanying notes with the torrent. They contain setup instructions you need to follow. Then, click "GET THIS TORRENT", and follow all of the prompts, until it is clearly *downloading*. Repeat this for all of the torrents, and then save your torrent notes. After downloading for a half-hour, you'll see that some of the torrents have 0.0% downloaded, and infinity ETAs. Remove and delete them and their data. When all of the viable torrents are downloaded: (Stop and delete, all of the torrents, [not their data,] and Exit uTorrent, from its 'File' menu. [Not, its 'X'.] After a few seconds, when you're sure all torrent transfer activity has ceased, disconnect from Nord (or your) VPN.) Choose the torrent you think is most suitable, as in easiest to setup, and/or latest release. Burn it. [ImgBurn DIRECT Download Link: https://download.imgburn.com/SetupImgBurn_2.5.8.0.exe ] (You could alternatively make a bootable Flash drive with your disc image, that may be more convenient.) ////////////////////////////////////////////////// ** - HOW TO INSTALL WINDOWS. A network card driver may be needed after Windows installation to connect to the internet. Open your Device Manager (search for it, it's near your Start button,) and lookup the name of yours, and then either grab its driver disc or download its latest driver, preferably to a flash drive, or else a disc. (Install it to test it, if necessary, to be sure it works.) Print-Screen, paste into Paint, and Save, (taking multiple shots,) your complete, fully opened-up Device Manager, (use Search, near Start,) showing *all* of your video and network and sound and other, *device names*. Then, backup your data, (most of your data will be on your Desktop, and in Downloads, Documents and Pictures,) including: 1) downloaded torrents, 2) torrent notes, 3) Network driver, 4) Device Manager screenshots, 5) And don't forget your Bookmarks, (and you may also wish to export Passwords,) (and also, either print-out or jot down any special Windows setup torrent instructions.) ....To either a safe partition, or drive, or another computer, (or flash drive/ BR-RW disc/ cloud/ etc.) If you used a flash drive for your network driver, unplug it from the computer at this time. [It is advised to disconnect all unnecessary devices and retry, if Windows Setup hangs or has errors.] You'll likely need to enter your BIOS/UEFI, and switch to boot, to the Windows Setup disc, first. Then, on Windows Setup's first reboot, catch your BIOS/UEFI again, and switch your boot order back. Boot to the Windows disc (or flash drive) and do a full clean install, (and also follow any additional instructions, from the Torrent provider.) During Setup, click Custom> Drive options > Delete all partitions, (unless you have data you're saving on them,) and then click on the Unallocated Space> Next. To ensure that there are no networking complications, use different user names for Windows 7 and Windows 10, and enter a password at the end of Setup. When asked for a Windows Product Key, simply click Next. You can enter it later. (If your copy of Windows has issues, try the next best you downloaded, and start over, following its instructions.) [If you're using an 'Activator', then at this time, simply copy it from the disc to your Desktop. Do not use it, at least until after all of your Windows Updates are completed. And I'd recommend, that you wait and see, if Windows complains about Activation, and if so, run it then.] ////////////////////////////////////////////////// ** - HOW TO SETUP WINDOWS. (Search> windows u ) (Sometimes updates fail. Simply reboot and repeat the process, and they will all go in.) Optional Updates have a chance of wrecking your Windows installation, requiring a re-installation of Windows, to fix it correctly. Due to their ages, installing Optional Updates on Windows 7 is mostly safe, while installing Optional Updates on Windows 10 is mostly dangerous. After completing all of the Important Updates, on Windows 7, do all of the Optional updates, except the Language packs. (On Windows 10, do all updates on the main page, but do not do any updates on the View optional updates page, unless you know you need to.) Reboot when prompted. Return to Windows Update. Re-scan for updates if none are shown. Install them all and reboot again when prompted. Repeat this, until you cannot get any more. [If you can't get any, and you know your network is connected, then proceed to skip this step.] At this point, it is wise to install your video card manufacturer's driver, and any other drivers that are missing. Refer to your saved Device Manager pictures, for exact proper device names, for searching for the latest drivers. But complete that last step, after we do half of what you came here to do, first: Map Network Drives. (I will remind you of when to install drivers below.) The following steps connected an Amiga 500 computer to a Windows 7 PC. Without much adjustment, they should work on all Amiga models, and all Windows versions. [Windows Updates were done on the Windows machine, and may have contributed to my success.] Purchase Amiga Explorer, and a cable to connect the computers. https://www.amigaforever.com/ae/ You need to connect a 25-pin Male Serial port on the Amiga, to a 9-pin Male Serial port on the PC, with a Null-modem cable. So your cable needs Female ends. There is more than one standard for Null-modem Serial Cables, and most of them, will most likely *NOT* work. While a Null-modem Adapter, is likely to work. If you already have a Null-modem Serial Cable, you can lookup the correct pin connections at Amiga Explorer's website, and test your cable's connections with a multimeter, and two paper-clips. If you buy a 25-pin Female to Female Serial Adapter, a 25-pin Male to 9-pin Female Serial Cable, and a 9-pin Male to Female Serial Null-modem Adapter, it *should* work. OR, you can simply buy one of these from overseas, which are *made* for this job: https://amigakit.amiga.store/serial-transfer-cable-p-787.html?aksid=dnhidtf7b2bpb9882o1p88luj1¤cy=GBP&aksid=dnhidtf7b2bpb9882o1p88luj1 https://amigastore.eu/en/275-cable-null-modem-amiga.html Connect the computers with your (cable, or) cable assembly. On the PC: (On Windows 7, make sure Internet Explorer 11 is installed, as Amiga Explorer needs it to update.) Right-click aesetup.exe , and Run as administrator. Enter your key if you have one. Reboot after. Right-click Amiga> Properties> About> check Early access> Check Now> updates available> Install 1 Item> Yes. Reboot when prompted. (If the updater doesn't respond with the link, click another tab (like Changelog) and then return to the About tab, to refresh.) Search dev > open Device Manager> Ports> (COM1)> Port Settings> Bits per second: 19200 > OK> 'X'. Right-click Amiga> Setup Wizard> Null-modem serial transfer> (Port: COM1)> Next> The Amiga was booted with a 1.2 or 1.3 Workbench disk....> Next> On the Amiga: ( endcli , exits a Shell, (as long as you're given a prompt.) Ctrl-A-A , (or Ctrl-C=-A ,) resets the Amiga.) Open Workbench1.3> Prefs> Serial> set to: Baud Rate: 19200 Buffer Size: 4096 Read Bits: 8 Write Bits: 8 Stop Bits: 1 Parity: None Handshaking: RTS/CTS > OK> Save> (Un-write protect the disk if needed.)> 'X'. On the PC: Next> On the Amiga: Open Shell (in Workbench1.3)> Enter Type SER: to RAM:Setup On the PC: Next> On the Amiga: (At this point, if you hear noise through your Amiga's speakers, that may indicate a faulty cable connection.) Also, if '1.SYS:>' pops up on the Amiga, before the progress bar completes, the transfer failed, (and MOST LIKELY, due to a faulty cable.) Press Ctrl+C when told to. On the PC: Next> ***BREAK comes up *IMMEDIATELY*, after clicking Next. If you do not see '***BREAK' on the Amiga, your setup has failed, (again MOST LIKELY, due to a faulty cable.) On the Amiga: (*DO NOT* touch the Amiga's mouse or keyboard during RAM:Setup:) Shell> Enter RAM:Setup On the PC: Next> (wait)> Finish. Note: Once when trying to run the Setup Wizard a second time, I encountered an unexpected error. At this stage, the Setup Wizard said it couldn't communicate with the (COM1) serial port. I uninstalled and re-installed Amiga Explorer, (with Run as administrator,) rebooting after both, and I reset the Amiga, using a different, but same, Workbench disk, (in case it had any errors.) And that fixed it. The problem felt like maybe one of the computers had some buffer clutter. Rebooting both computers alone, is probably what actually fixed it. On the Amiga: Copy the files from the RAM DISK to a Floppy or Hard disk. Double-click AExplorer to connect to the PC. (Double-click AExplorer again, to disconnect.) (Amiga Explorer's settings can be changed by clicking the AExplorer icon once, then right-clicking Workbench> Info.) On the PC: Right-click Amiga> Properties> Options> Amiga Icon> check Show in This PC> Apply> Amiga Side> Set Time Now> check Autoset time> OK. To connect: Double-click AExplorer on the Amiga. Double-click the Amiga icon on the PC. Double-clicking AExplorer on the Amiga again, disconnects. Done. ////////////////////////////////////////////////// ** - HOW TO MAKE WORKBENCH 1.3 LAUNCH AMIGA EXPLORER. Choose Invite someone you trust to help you on your PC and click Save this invitation as a file2. Save this file on the desktop and a pop-up window that contains a password will appear. Send the file and password to the PC providing help2. On the PC providing help, choose Help someone who has invited you, and then double-click on the file, enter the password and click OK2. Then a pop-up request will display on the computer receiving help, click on Yes2. On the PC providing help, click on Request control and then a window will be popped up on the computer receiving help2. Google Chrome Remote Desktop: This is another option.
