A Poem by Alicia™
"

Those songs; memories of us

"

That playlist we made together,

Long before you left me bleeding,

With my emotions ripped from me,

Numb, hollow, lost.

Those songs; memories of us.

Every time they play,

I press next and pretend they never came on,

But inside my heart grows heavier,

And that wound you left me with

Is gashed wide open again,

And the pain ripples through me.

But today I looked through those songs again,

For the first time in more days and months than I can remember,

And tried to remember why we picked each one,

But I can’t anymore,

Even as I flip through the pages of my journal,

I just can’t remember anymore.

Now I don’t even remember,

Which song it was that I thought was so special,

Or the exact date you played it to me,

Not like I used to.

Tonight when I play those songs again,

I’ll smile and not think about you,

And instead let the sweet melody seep into me.

Aww this was sweet.... Currently dating a musician, I know EXACTLY how those songs would just absolutely rip into me if we were to ever lose each other. Even with just a little fight between us, the songs that I know he likes still tears into me. Beautifully written! :) All too true. It flowed very well and was easy to follow. Great job! I look forward to reading more from you!

great poem, really shows alot. and you really captured the emotion of others in this situation (as I'm sure there are alot) and that was really well done. I have to say my favorite part would be the last stanza, great part and GREAT job! :)

Ohhh I really liked that! It sounded very...pure? Is that the word I'm looking for? I guess I'm trying to say that it sounded as if you let it all out. Which is good! :D The ending part is really great:

Tonight when I play those songs again,
I’ll smile and not think about you,
And instead let the sweet melody seep into me.

GOOD JOB!

I believe truly that music can bring about memories filled with emotions.. however I try not to relate a song to a person.. If I do.. it is held in a beautiful memory whereby I try to remember the best of that person the song was special to. I can only think of 1 or 2 songs on this whole earth that make me sad... and it's cause they are really sad songs! Glad you refound the passion in the original music you adored.. and disconnected it if it was harming you.. all music should be enjoyed in the right time, mood and setting!

This is a great poem!!! It really describes so accurately that feeling, and of having those things like songs, that remind you of "them." But it's love that attaches meaning to all things, and when love is gone, the attachments in the mind fade away too.

It's heartbreaking though, here's to love that will last!

You will not BELIEVE how accurate this poem is in describing the situation that I'm in! You conveyed the emotions of the situation perfectly, and with such honesty and heart, making it a very relatable piece. I really liked the way the emotions in the poem changed as the poem progressed. This piece flowed effortlessly, and you cut the sentences at perfect points creating each of the lines.
I guess that at this stage, my frame of mind is similar to that of which you described in your second stanza. Although reading this poem did leave me feeling positive, knowing that one day I'll be able to play those songs again, smile, and not think about him. :)
Beautifully written,
