Your Broken Heart

Your Broken Heart

A Poem by Sierra Erway

It's in the moment that you realize
you haven't talked in 2 weeks.
It's in the rapid beating of your heart
when you think of what he has been doing instead.
What have you been doing instead?
It's in the sweat forming on your skin
when you find his passwords are changed.
And when he won't pick up the phone...
It's in the tears on your face
when he finally answers you and tells you
"Of course it's over. What did you think we were doing here?"
It's in the screams of agony
that you throw against the wall;
One for every memory turning black.
It's in your whispers in the dark
that you admit that you let it all slip away.
You weren't paying attention all the while you were drifting apart...
It's in the bite of the blade,
the haze of the smoke,
the dust of a pill,
the caress of a drink,
that you find the strength to accept this.
Let it go...
And rest easy now, darling...
Your heart is much too tender for this...
