A Story for the Years
A Poem by Sierra Nerys
a poem I wrote for a contest on DeviantART :)
Your eyes remind me of the ocean A blue that's of the sea It never fails to stop my breath Each time you look at me.
Liquid topaz captured Forever yours to keep An everlasting, endless span So unbelievably deep
A timepiece ticking softly Away upon the sill Slowly strips away the days To take us back to yesteryears. To the moment that we fell in love In your eyes, I see it now Your boutonniere and cummerbund I in my soft blue satin gown.
Back then it was so different We waited for so long But when father finally did concede That spark was far from gone
We took our time in getting here But now so many years have passed And each time I look in your eyes I don't once wonder why it's last.
All this time together Our golden years now done But not a single thing has changed Since our love was young
That bright blue flame can't be put out Though eighty years are gone And your eyes tell me you'll be here When the clock hits eighty-one.

This reminds me so much of Up, in that beginning montage of them meeting and growing old together :)
I like how you set up a kind of timeline through the ages, and kept the theme of the eyes throughout to connect the younger years to the older. It gives this a very nice and pronounced flow, and it definitely feels reminiscent of song lyrics, in the sense that they're telling a story from the past to the present and onto thoughts of the future.

About
Talking about me isn't something I'm great at, so I'll just tell you why I'm here. I love to write, and most of the outlets I've used don't get me very far in sharing my work with other people. Critic.. more..
