The Edge

The Edge

A Poem by Sierra Nerys

I hate you for no reason,
You love me for a lie,
Yet we can't seem to move forward,
Despite how hard we try.

Our relationship is too far gone,
Now our friendship's on the edge.
You say that doesn't matter,
There's no way we'll leave this ledge.

How can I rely on you?
How do I earn your trust?
How can we convince ourselves
That we're not the best for us?

Tattered, torn, and broken.
Fraying strings on your guitar.
So much less than we could be
But all we ever are.

A wish upon a lonely star,
A simple phrase, "good night."
No matter what we do, it seems
Everything is never right.

My thoughts are just a jumbled mess.
Your words stick on your tongue.
They say there's too much drama-
We're all quite simply far too young.

And days they just keep skipping by,
Small children and their games.
Nonsensical, such gibberish,
They won't believe our claims.

Always shoved together,
So much better far apart.
But how can something end,
When it never had a hope to start?

I liked the realism in this, it conjures the idea of that space between leaving the old and finding the new, a kind of limbo that some people stay in forever.

I really like this poem. It says so much about people and their relationships that should end but just seem to keep hanging on.

Talking about me isn't something I'm great at, so I'll just tell you why I'm here. I love to write, and most of the outlets I've used don't get me very far in sharing my work with other people. Critic.. more..
