If All Were to Write for a Day

If All Were to Write for a Day

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

If all the world were to write for a day

there would be an end to war

all these needless fights

that plague us so

day and night.

Noone would be shot or killed

instead each one of use would take up the quill

realeasing years of frustrations

on our pages in ecstastic reminisces

or sweet memories

of childhood's past longings

adult yearnings

hopes and dreams for the future

would become a true reality

as each one would learn

once again those simple words,

'The pen is mightier than the sword.'

So much can be spoken

in a few well thought out lines

and in time perhaps this imagining

may become a tradition

that travels forth through family lines

where rather than guns

we take up our pens

release our tensions

and think before speaking.

While all the others were busily writing away one man in every hundred would see his chance to steal a march on his rivals. The cheats would of course be outraged by other cheats and would start fighting each other. The noise of the fighting would soon disturb the writing. Groan. And of course the triumphant gang would then see the writers as easy game. Double groan. Then the writers would have to form their own Knights Of The Pen to battle The Gang. And then, lol, Stephen King would walk the earth and all the other writers would feel the want of a million words. And the Bestsellers would triumph over the mere Masters who would sulk for centuries and centuries.

Actually, it would be great if everyone could write for a day. There would be some amazing pieces of work I am sure. But I hope they would not be entrusted to certain online sites, no names...which would probably crash and lose the lot!

Hi Siddartha,

Beautiful poem. I wish I could agree with you as to its efficacy, but, alas, am too cynical. I think such sentiments are possible perhaps, but am not sure writing is the answer. Would be more open to it if I myself could expiate my frustrations and demons through writing. Actually working on a poem showing my failure at writing out my frustrations. Have to be reasonably happy to write.

Again, brilliant, well-done writing that I enjoyed, as always, when reading your stuff.

What an amazing thought! And I don't think it's limited to writing. I think that if for one day everybody did something creative (writing, art, music, etc.) things would get better. The poem was beautiful, and the message displayed with your usual eloquence and thought. Thank you for this beautiful, inspiring poem and the dream behind it. Blessed Be!

This is a fine fantasy, as they say (In a perfect world) alll you have written would come true.
This is a very good write. I haven't posted it but I wrote a poem called If fantasies were real.
This piece remainds me to take another look at it for a rewrite. Thanks for sharing.
