Throughout Time

Throughout Time

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce
"

'For Lotus Eaters'

"

Ripped apart the alphabet

explored the numbers

yet what did I get

a riddle

a rhyme

of complex proportion

the notion that each

stood for something

profound

but I remain

dumbfound

in that the secret

has yet to be revealed

or discovered

in the uncovering

of letters and numbers

issued upon our scene

by an unknown being

however, it is mathematics

upon which we all agree

the numbers of pi, infinity

are equal all

around the globe

no matter your creed, race,

gender or language

the alphabets differ

however, numbers remain

the same

I would that I could

decipher the name

of this word game

of this rhyme

yet it remains part

of the Sublime

a jester entertaining

us all

throughout time.

Emily Dickinson wrestled with learning to tell time. I did, too. It's funny how one language sets in well with us or not at all.

A wise man once said to me that we think through a language. We have as many different ways of thinking as we do languages that we speak. It must have been true. He was a Turkish man running an Italian restaurant in Germany. And he spoke perfect English.

Amazing inspiration. You have such a gift for the cloaked meanings. True mathematics in this poem, uniquely done...!

Issued upon our scene by an unknown being, That's poetic Gold! Jester and gesture are a nice potential double entendre here too! Brilliant! and good for us...

I like the theme here, that numbers, mathematics is the only universal
language unchanged by time and understood no matter what culture
or background. But numbers being so rigid and hard, not able to be
manipulated the way words can express emotions and feelings.
Nicely done

Ah, such a wonderful double entendre, here. The mixing and matching of different symbols, letters and numbers, and the result in time. If I add 2 + 2 I get four or 4 but not fore. That means something.

Wonderful quandary and great beat. This is terrific. Thank you for sharing.

Yes, I like the flow of this too. And the subject matter. I often wish I was better at mathematics - especially after seeing the film 'Pi'. It's an interesting thought that mathematics is the one true language. You have got my brain buzzing here... good work!
