The Land They Left Me

The Land They Left Me

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

Upon this farmland where I dwell

has a helper

who can not be quelled-

he comes each and every day

to mow the grass

and plod the hay-

although in age

he is eighty three

he seems more of a sage

to me-

as he stated briefly once,

'I take care of this place

so that once I meet them

at the heavenly gates

my parents will be proud of me

for taking care of the land

that they left me.'

ah, what a lovely write!! Reminds me of the 83 year old man who was here a couple weeks ago, on his own the first day; removing old shingles on the roof; making cuts in the roof with a circular saw to replace and repair the weakend boards with new to be covered by new shingles as well. Good to see that it's the desire to keep going and doing that keeps the human soul moving onward; day by day.

Fine write!! Thanks for the reminder.

I love how the land and the piece seem to continue on. The land through the son and his care for it and the piece with the ending that the son will see his parents again.

This is beautiful, loving the land is a true love, nature is beautiful and it is a gift. There is nothing to say one cant adore and be passionate about earth and not love god too, fore he is the creator and it is his gift to us.
I love it=)

P.s Have I told you about my new site yet?
