In the Midst of Spring

In the Midst of Spring

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

The windmill cranks out

a rusty tune

this dreary, overcast afternoon-

Yet the robins and bluebirds

sing too

to the beckoning of Spring-

Lazy April days

as our puppies play

on the lawn-

A tranquil scene

set upon the river near

with the mountains all around-

A few sunstrokes

peek behind billowing clouds

and slowly reach the ground-

While the windchimes

play along as well

calling out the dinner bell-

Still we may have a fire

this eve

as this old house

is freezing still

even in the midst of Spring.

Sounds like I'll need someone to cozy up to. Nice description, the cadence works well with the lazy day yet-not-too-dreary pictures. And "what" the author observes is light and charmed as though she'll hum or sing along with the rest of the music. The last stanza is unusual because it starts with we, but the indoor freezing suggests independence/solitude.

It like reading a painting. Each stanza paints a little more of the portrait coming to life. It's beautiful and relaxing.

Ah, the arrival of Spring
So anticipated and yet rearing it's head ever so slowly
This gave me a tranquil want for full-fledged Spring
Nicely done
