United

United

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

Knotted pines

leak sap

spark the flame

set alight

within the fireplace's gate-

a home from the 1700's

still and frigid

warmed only by the fire

we set about

each night

this winter season

chatting slowly

murmuring knowingly

as they come together

to get along

within this new abode to her

his old grandmother's place

passed down to the younger generation

now her place to dwell as well

as he has invited her in-

a union blessed

as they are now-

a husband and wife

united

together

as One

to reveal in the dreams

of those that have passed on

before them,

left in their wake

a loving rememberance

upon hearth

to speak before

each night and each morning they awake

to set the fire once more

welcoming friends and family

at the door.

A home built once in love

is again inhabited

by that very state

blessed from above

by their sweet embraces.
