By the Riverside

By the Riverside

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

By the riverside

we weep tears of joy

the turtles sleep

in heaps upon

the timbers

fallen into the cool

relaxing water

sunning themselves

on this beautiful spring day

as robins and goldfinches

sing happy tunes

to greet the afternoon

sublimely lit

by the sun's rays

reflecting upon

the pool of the Shenandoah

a stone's throw

from my door

or more

a serene walk

unto this scene

is born

each day

as we tread our way

through the bluebells smell

gathering thistles for me

to later make topiaries

dried

and set beside

the fireplace

a memory

of our walks

along the riverside's shore.
