Are You Insane?

Are You Insane?

A Poem by Siddhartha Chatterjee
"

Absurd

"

There lies the Wait. The Wait that no one prepared you for.

Under the bright red ceilings and the inside the hastily painted doors,

The Wait waits for you. Silent, intimidating, and immensely powerful.

Give me a day or two, or give me a month. Maybe a year, even.

Can you really bid for time? Doesn’t that wait for no man, woman or child?

But you say it does, in ways incomprehensible for my feeble mind.

Do you want to keep your dreams, safe on the top shelf?

You can put a reminder, lest you forget.

The ineffable joke is on you, you know.

The blue eyes tell a different story, each time. Every time.

The sip of coffee has a different ask, each time. Every time.

“Are you happier, if you let go of your morals?” is one of them.

Who decides?

This has a sinister feel to it. Is it death we wait for as our lives pass us by and we stay safe but leave those dreams upon the shelf or do we live life despite the risks. You weave this dilemma into four stanza'a that beg an important question. Writen in tight and clear verse.

You have a thought-provoking style in this piece, and I like it. You have an extra (unnecessary) "the" in Line 2, and if you don't mind my saying, the poem could be more powerful without "is one of them" (but that's your call). This is overall philosophical and brilliant. Well done!
