We are the people that make up the United States of America. The government is not the United States, it is only a representation of the people. The government is (supposed to be) there for the people, to support and better the lives of the people. We should never live in fear that any person placed in a position of power might abuse it. The government should be firm, yet understanding. Empathetic, not ignorant. In control, but not tyrannical.

We as a country"no, as a world"are separated and divided. We have been since the beginning of time. Race, religion, sex, wealth, knowledge, influence, genocide, war, differences between you and me… These things define us. And these things should be embraced and accepted.

Laws are set in place to protect people and their assets. Taxes are paid to fund government support to the people, handle disputes, and manage international affairs. These are needed. Citizens need proper representation of the common folk to the powers of the world. But the powers of the world should not be in control of the billions of us living here.

Humans are a progressive intellectual species. We need to start acting like it. Killing, protesting, looting…these are not the ways to act like it. I agree we need to be heard. I agree we are pushed down and used as stepping stones for others to get to a bigger end.

As people we should strive to help one another. Stop world hunger. Stop wars, violence, genocide, stop chasing things we don't have. We dream of a utopia where we all live in peace and harmony, yet we can't take the time to make plans of success to tackle this issue, we can’t take the time to give each other basic respect. Our dreams of better are buried under wars, big pharma, big industry, red tape, military prowess, or who is more right than the other.

WE CANNOT KEEP LIVING LIKE THIS. THE WORLD IS GETTING SMALLER. IF WE ARE TO SURVIVE AS A SPECIES, WE NEED TO LEARN TO BE TOLERANT. WE NEED TO LEARN TO BE HEARD. LEARN HOW TO REPRESENT ONE ANOTHER WHEN OTHERS ARE UNABLE TO REPRESENT THEMSELVES.

I am nobody, as are you. Let's be nobody together so we can grow to be the somebodies that make a difference in the world. Seven billion people versus a select few who have a sense of false control and power that is abused and tarnished.

Hind sight is 20/20, but look forward if you want to do something. Whole countries in their entirety should congregate on the places of power and sit there and be nobodies and get to know one other without hate or malice. The governments of the world will soon realize they are not the power houses they think they are.

We the people are what make the world run. Once we all see that and can respect one another and work together, the world will never be the same again. We shall not be oppressed or controlled like cattle.

Sictor, I can relate to your essay because I teach High School Government and economics. I like your comment about that fact that we are getting smaller. Social media and the internet have made us more connected. You are right about tolerance. The problem I think is that even with greater information people have not necessarily improved in their thinking ability. Indeed, the world seems to be getting less tolerant.
