THE BIPOLAR ME

THE BIPOLAR ME

A Poem by Red Rose
"

The side only you know, but don't understand..

"
Best friends with enthusiasm and ecstasy,
but also discreetly allied with their nemesis.
                         Unpredictable to the core,
                    maybe that's what intrigued many.

                         Known as the positive being,
                       inspiring many to be carefree.
Little did they know I cry myself to sleep,
                             for no reason coherent.

If seen forlorn, it's a massive shock
for they've never known the broken me.
Always hyper, with a vast imagination
                                but when in solitude,
depression comes knocking at my door.

                                 Manic and mania?
                                        Well, ya.

                    Riding this unstable roller coaster,
                           With more ups than downs.
But the downs, deeper than the deep blue sea.
After much scrutinizing, only one theory left,
this is to the bipolar me.

Thank you for your poem in my contest. I think have bipolar contidition can be more difficult . I never have deep depression or big euphoric feelings. Although my disorder can give me lot of frustration . I dealing more with good days or bad days. I think you write quiet well what is really means to be bipolar . So everybody can understand to this. I hope you doing okay and all the best to you.

"Known as the positive being, inspiring many to be carefree. Little did they know I cry myself to sleep, for no reason coherent." I'm a bipolar man for 12 years now since 2008 and this line of yours brought me goose bumps. "If seen forlorn, it's a massive shock " this one nearly caused me to tear up because it is my reality and I wouldn't dare it think of it. Beautiful poem. I saw myself in it yet felt relieved. I wonder to myself if a bipolar couple can be true soulmates and happiest together. What do you think? Who would understand or tolerate a woman with bp than a man who suffered the same..just wondering..but that's the brilliance of your poem that stirred up my emotions, and that's what brilliant writers are capable of..well done

Not bad, you hit most of the manic and depressive tropes involved with suffering from bi polar depression. Are you self diagnosing yourself or are you actually suffering from a bi polar disorder? Some people just want to be "different" and "dark" so they diagnose themselves as bi polar or manic and eventually they actually become bi polar or manic. It's a recognized disorder in it of itself, it's called Factitious Disorder and is on the rise among adolescents these days especially. It's not a good thing, nor is it "cool" to mistake normal adolescent confusion and angst for a serious, life long mental disorder.

Here you have perfectly described the first half of my life, before I learned I was bipolar. I only showed the "good" side & always hid the "bad" side, exactly as you've expressed here, the way I often thought (still think) nobody really knows me becuz I refuse to let the extremes out in public. It was an immense relief, at 40-ish, to read about bipolar & recognize myself as clear as a mirror. This is one of the most original yet artful descriptions of how it can be.

As I'm reading the comments it just goes to show, none of us are truly alone in our feelings. We have surface friends who see one side of us, and melancholy writers on the internet that see the other. We are perfectly crafted like yin yang, happy and sad. The question is, is one side fake and if so, which one?
I'm sorry you feel this aching loneliness without people around you truly understanding. I hope it gets better and someone openminded befriends you.

I can same what relate to this, everybody's says I a happy hyper loving guy, but when I alone I s**t down and feel empty inside, then have thoughts that surprise everyone. Its not that we can't be happy its just harder when we are alone. Our happiness is brief. But it is short lived but we feel more happy then most in the short time. Yours truely a mad lord

Hello, I can relate to this, its gritty, honest and really brave. I think we are each gems multi angled and faceted some angles reflect light differently while others repel light remaining a slight mystery. I think understanding all that we are is a gift moreso when we can accept and embrace it as apart of our character, and perhaps upon acceptance and understanding we can allow others to see a little bit by bit. We are so much more than how we are perceived. A wonderful write, thank you for giving this topic a voice. Starz x
