Imagination

Imagination

A Poem by Shy Joe

eyes closed..
the dark
blank
empty canvas

pick up the paint brush
dip it into the pool of child wanderlust
watch your reflection obscure in the ripples
sling it in a fit of carelessness
let it drip randomly
paint the ground
paint the sky!

orchestrate the world alive

make it flourish
grab the colors barehanded
fling birds into a fluttering explosion
smear mountains to the clouds
mold skyscrapers
build characters
splatter emotions on your soul

give lost loved ones new life
take them on a journey
they're not gone
if you give them somewhere to live

mistakes are rewritten
goodbyes erased
hugs never missed

grow tall
gain strength
fly to the moon
watch the world heal

it's your play dough

make enemies weep
slay dragons

              live a story

what are you afraid of?

Author's Note

Shy Joe
What goes through my mind when I read almost anything. I like to think everyone goes through the same process I go through when I write. I literally just sit down with no plan and just write what my mind tells me to. Sometimes I feel pure joy. Others the emotions just follow as I type. I truly love to write. The world just disappears around me. I may never write any best sellers, but I will always have a good place too go. I hope everyone else feels the same way when they write.

This poem speaks to the power of imagination and creativity to transform the world around us and to help us find meaning and purpose in our lives. The use of vivid sensory details, such as the "pool of child wanderlust" and the "fluttering explosion" of birds, creates a sense of wonder and possibility that draws the reader into the speaker's experience.

The lines "give lost loved ones new life / take them on a journey / they're not gone / if you give them somewhere to live" are particularly poignant, highlighting the ways in which art and imagination can help us to remember and honor those we have lost.

The final lines of the poem, which encourage us to "make enemies weep / slay dragons / live a story," are a powerful reminder of the importance of courage and resilience in the face of adversity.

Overall, this is a beautifully crafted and deeply moving poem that speaks to the universal human experience of creativity and the ways in which it can help us to find meaning and purpose in our lives.

the imagery in this piece made my imagination come to life.
my favorite lines would have to be:
"pick up the paint brush
dip it into the pool of child wanderlust"
{to be creative without fear. the ultimate goal.}

To be, to feel, to write like this flies you high into a very special world. I could choose too many excerpts or quotes to show how much it reaches out.. but enough to say.. your words touch the senses.

I couldn't agree more with your Author's note. The process should begin freely, without purpose, allowing the journey to take you where it will. Once you have arrived, had lunch, a s**t, and maybe a good lay, you can always return home, reconsider the pics you took, often quite drunkenly, and revise what you created into some form of vaguely understandable gibberish.

In your spirit, composed my review as you suggested, no plan other than what my fingers key commanded.

Love the poem, by the way

An artist can create anything he or she wishes, whether painter, sculptor, poet or novelist. The blank canvas, or blank page, is an open invitation to create! All the artist needs is imagination! I enjoyed reading this.

Loved the pacing of this poem. It is both good to look at and to read out. I bet it is also sweet to the hearing ear! This is a comprehensive encapsulation of the writing process, journey, state. Herein, all else becomes a blur until of course the time of resurfacing and unti the process starts over. Thanks for sharing.
