Preparation

Preparation

A Chapter by Shubham

School picnics are really exciting. But what is as exciting as the picnic itself is the preparation for the school picnic day. Everyone is busy preparing for their ‘Big day’ in their own fashion. There are of course various kinds of students based on their way to prepare for a school picnic.
Some students lead the way in terms of excitement. They are so excited that the fact, that they are going to a school picnic seems to them as if it is their coronation ceremony and they are being crowned as the king or queen of a kingdom. They try their best to make sure that this fact is known to maximum number of people. Their preparation in fact begins days earlier with the publicity of their picnic getting the priority. Such students call up their distant relatives only to let them know that they are going for a picnic. Such students are usually the monitors of a class or they are such that they never ever attend any class! They bring along with them, plenty of accessories and usually in the wake of excitement, forget at least one of them at the picnic spot itself.
Another set of students behave in the opposite way. First of all they have that fear whether their parents will allow them to go or not. As a result half of them never tell their parents about the picnic at the first place and thus are unable to attend. The other half of them try to seek permission, but while doing so they try to give unnecessary explanations to their parents with the belief that their parents would grant them permission based on their explanation. In reality however, their parents are happily ready to allow them to go. But their habit of giving unnecessary explanations enrages few of the impatient parents and then such students are not even allowed to go.
The following are some of the interesting explanations given by such students:-
· “Mom, I want to go for the picnic. But don’t worry, we will return in the afternoon itself”. (Mom doesn’t know afterwards whether to laugh or cry).
· “Oh, my Dear Daddy, please, please, please, I really want to go out for a picnic. The last time I went out with my friends was a while ago, on last Sunday”. (Daddy is flattered by hearing ‘Dear’ itself and doesn’t even bother to listen what is there afterwards and permission is granted).
· “M…M…. Mom, the thing is that a…..a…” (Mom loses patience at this stage only and no picnic, nothing).
· “Grandpa, you always say that I am a good girl and good girls really like to go for their school picnic. So please order daddy to allow me to go!”(Grandpa has no choice but to listen to the dictator of the house).
· “I Promise I won’t call you fat again in front of daddy but please allow me to go” (Mom is emotional and goes to the locker to obtain the required cash, but in the process, sees herself in the mirror and cancels the idea).
So in this way, some students are accepted while some of them are rejected in this ‘Picnic Interview’.

Well besides both these categories, there are of course those, who do not seem to belong to any of the categories. Our Sam was such an exceptional case! Due to his shy nature, he never ever told anyone about the picnic apart from his parents. But he was never as pushy as the other students and was thus granted permission each time by his parents. But, he see was seriously unique. He neither had any interest in chit-chatting with his classmates during the picnic nor had he the desire to spend a lot of money on accessories and goodies. He just wanted to enjoy himself a lot without anybody else’s interference and cherish that experience for lifetime.
