![]() All about SamA Chapter by ShubhamSchool Picnics are one of the most important occasions in a student’s life. It is an opportunity to relax, enjoy, have fun with your friends and basically forget about the tension, created by studies and other aspects of School life. So, every student looks forward to this day in his/her life which probably just comes once in the whole academic year. Sam Foster, 14, was an average student going to the St. John’s High School. The school though, was grand and had a great reputation throughout the city. It excelled in almost all the fields, but the great thing and perhaps the uniqueness of this school was that, 'picnics' were taken very seriously and hence St. John’s picnics were considered to be the best in the whole city and thus every student irrespective of his/her academic progress, looked forward to this incredible picnic which brought nothing but smiles on the faces of those who attended it. Like others, Sam too was very excited about this picnic as every year. But another very important reason for this excitement was the fact that he belonged to the Ninth or the penultimate standard of School life and hence this was the last picnic of his entire school life as students of the Tenth standard were debarred from attending the glorious picnic. Hence he was extremely keen on making this picnic an unforgettable one. Sam as a person was extremely shy, so school picnics were a great platform for someone as shy as him, to express himself. He, like most others had a habit of maintaining a ‘diary’ which he had maintained since childhood with a lot of care and efforts. He was so much attached to his diary that he used to carry it everywhere he went besides a super market, which was just like a Principal’s cabin for him. The diary was average-sized just like Sam himself. It was basically just a notebook, spiral-bound and had a front cover having the image of an athlete crossing the finishing line. Along with the diary, he used to carry a slim, royal-looking pen, gifted to him by someone years ago with which he used to write down the daily chores and some special events, taken place on that particular day in the diary. An interesting thing was that he used write everything with a seemingly intimidating ‘RED INK’ which made it look like a blank answer sheet with remarks from the examiner all over the booklet. Sam was also known for panicking at the wrong time. Whenever he found himself in deep trouble he was not able to keep a cool head and thus failed to perform that task. But, on the other hand Sam was quite innocent and believed in a very simple way of living his life, which made occasions like the school picnic the only occasions on which he could make his life ‘GRAND’ to a certain extent and hence he absolutely loved attending school picnics. He wanted to write at least one poem in his life. But, as he was shy, he always refrained himself from writing. All and all, he really wanted to be a poet.
