The Love That Was

The Love That Was

A Poem by Shreya Dixit
"

This poem explores the journey of love, loss, and personal growth. It delves into the transformative power of time and the lessons learned from heartbreak.

"
Time changes ,
And it's needed to be.
Things change with the time,
And yes they shall owe to be.
There's version of mine,
That's reformed with time.
Days when I used to love,
Days when he was mine.

Starting with my eyes,
They used to light up with his one glance.
They still do I admit ,
But pity to tell you there's a difference.
Then was the excitement of love,
And now ,it's the regret of loss.

With every conversation with him ,
I used to smile.
My lips would pause,
Just to stare him for a while.
They still smile, they still pause,
Whenever we are talking .
But this time smile is for acceptance,
And pause is for crying.

When I was in love,
Even the worst felt beautiful.
But from the day my heart broke,
Everything sucks,everything is awful.

I was insecure to confess my feeling,
And yes ,I still hesitate it sharing.
May be I was shy then,
Or you say nervous to face him.
But now my heart is filled with fear and doubts,
Afraid of losing love,I must shout.

Love gave me scars, scars of remorse,
A harsh lesson learned,a bitter course.
I distance myself to prevent any attachments,
So wary to love, scared of severance.

Things do change, and the change is fine
Again I say the game of time.
Changes reform us and though I changed,
Then may be due to the charm of love,
And now from the past faults strength I've gained.

The wound was unbearable,
Till I believed he is the one.
But since I've realised he's life's another lesson,
So it's okay, I have moved on.

It covers so many different stages, of a passionate romance between man and woman. It reads almost like a short story, ending with the protagonist accepting; that she's reached an appropriate stage to move on from that romance. So, on to what? I have the impression that, she considers this affair to have been a learning experience in love? In the Author's Note, it's clear that this writer associates strongly with the emotions which she's expressed. So, this poem seems to have been inspired by her experiences? As they say, "love hurts".
