Lost in Fiction's Embrace

Lost in Fiction's Embrace

A Poem by Shreya Dixit
"

I've always been a sucker for a good love story, especially the ones in books. This poem captures that feeling of wanting to escape into a world where love is perfect...

"
Haven't seen your blurred face,
Haven't ever been to that serene place,
Where we first met that night,
Where we lived the best moments of our life.

You held my hand in yours,
Almost froze me when you came a little closer.
I would never forget what you whispered,
Some promises, your love, and our own secret world.

Albeit for a girl, it's not that breezy,
To break from dreams and face reality.
Though embarrassing, it was all my fantasy,
Falling for someone without even an identity.

I wish there was a door to my fictional world,
Where I could escape this dull reality to be yours.
It literally hurts, my dear, that we can't even meet in person,
And here I regret why real men can't be like fictional one.

Firstly, I noticed that the poem is about fictional love; so it surprises me that the Author's Note raises a question about real connections. Apart from that contradiction, it's a nice poem; and clearly makes different points and observations to the reader. The third verse focuses upon disillusionment, and the clash between fantasy and reality; which sometimes occurs for a woman. Ironically, the final verse seems to cheer on a fictional world; whilst also yearning for what the writer claims is unachievable for her..?
