Les Revenants

Les Revenants

A Poem by John F

For tomorrow
I will hope for a mysterious
Lowering of your heart’s water.

For the reservoir to drain
And reveal the broken
Heart dragging beneath.

All those damn fools
Who drowned for you
Before I did.

Maybe we’ll climb out
Of this world
Unaware that anything
Ever happened.

Maybe I already
Drowned with you,
And can’t remember.

My heart refuses to speak to me.

But I see the guise of
An angel ravaged
Under your wet clothes.

Your skin alive with sweat
And gunshot glitter.

In your arms I am
Physically unable to move.

But still I can draw a map of
Stars across your body
With my eyes.

I adore the title for obvious reasons and it fits perfectly with the contents of the poem.
It speaks to me of a lover lost that always seems to return and has a permanent place in the heart and eyes.
A complex use of imagery complements the melancholic romanticism of the feelings and words conveyed.
A love lost for always but always remembered. Special words.
