Semper For Always

Semper For Always

A Poem by John F

There is more to love
Than the simple movements
Lovers can capture
Within a forbidden perspective.

I’m sure these things existed
Long before we were called
To stumble upon them.

Occasionally music and song
Will bring them back
When they are no longer visible.

When your presence is no longer
Encoded in tarot memory.

Sometimes I will hear
Algerian women singing
about alcohol and pain
In secret cafes of night.

Other times I will listen to
Malaysian women protest
Against the dust in the wind,
To ask for the strength to endure.

I guess I only ever really
Need to hear from Laura.

She tells me, most assuredly,
“We’ve not got long, you know,
To bask in the afterglow…

Once it’s gone it’s gone,
Love waits for no one”.

Has the sound of something that ended before it should have. Regret looms in the background of this one.
