Let Me Stay In Your Bell Jar

Let Me Stay In Your Bell Jar

A Poem by John F

Let me stay in your bell jar
Of perfectionist concentration.

To be loved without judgement
Is all I could ask.

I know I am foreign
to your eyes,
But my heart is homesick
For your sight’s chimera.

I can’t subdivide your soul’s jazz
Into two-eighths or quarter notes,
So I tend to fall behind the pulse
Of your heart’s cadence.

I wouldn’t want to dilute you
With imprecise measure,
So I can’t quite predict
The rhythm of your heart’s waters.

The strength needed to
Withstand will take all of you.

Hundreds of poems
Will circle around your life.

And so it is your earthly duty
To capture all of them
Within your bell-shaped glass,
And protect them
From the outside world.
