Melancholia

Melancholia

A Poem by John F
"

Wrote this in memory of a troubled, serene, and fierce savant. Don’t want to share more detail than that as it’s a private and painful thing.

"
In this dance of death
I see you falling with the stars
Into another depression.

Wild horses collapsing
In your teary eyes.

Falling sparrows colliding
Against your restless heart.

Life should not be a narrow path
Others choose for you.

I long to watch you sunbathe again
In the planet’s naked glow,

Unaware of what time the tide
Will turn back to thump you again,
Not moving in an erratic line towards it.

I wish I could tell you that we’ll build
A magic cave out of memories,
So we can hide you from it.

But we have no memories
That would do the trick.

All I can do is hold your hand
And let it shatter against us both.

I can barely bear reading this, not because of the writing itself but because of its topic and theme. One day I hope to find my words and somehow distance myself enough to do so. This is beautiful in the way the pain and sorrow is given form and life in poetry🙏🏻🕊️
